At the Center, we believe that empowering research and analysis is one way we can help communities build a more prosperous future. We've written a brief designed to bring together data and identify patterns that are helpful to community leaders as they plan for the future. "It is useful to begin a discussion of wealth creation in America over the next 50 years with a glimpse of the past. Average annual real change in household current net worth - wealth - for each decade of both the historic and contemporary periods was:

>1950-60        4.48%
>1960-70        4.09%
>1970-80        3.08%
>1980-90        3.47%
>1990-00        5.77%

Community Pride in Biddeford, Maine
Craig Schroeder leads the Center's Youth Engagement System - a comprehensive, customizable strategy that interconnects education, real-world experience and community support. He brought to my attention a recent blog by the Orton Family Foundation titled, 'Visioning Process Sparks Community Pride in One Town's Youth'. He makes two points about this article, (1) the focal point of a project-focused engagement that youth and adults develop and create together and (2) the importance of remaining engaged with students after graduation so when they are thinking about starting a family or new career opportunities they have connections in their hometown for exploring options.
