So far, we have covered two keys to economic development success: local responsibility and a smart game plan. This month, we unveil key No. 3 - Robust Investment. Make sure to also check out our new Youth program brochure.
Key No. 3 - Robust Investment
One of the biggest reasons I see community development fail is the lack of investment. That's why Key No. 3 is robust investment. In order to sustain consistent economic growth, it's important to invest in your community.

Interesting Debate Emerging:
We have had the chance to study and work with both Richard Florida, Creative Class writings, and Joel Kotkin, author of the Next Hundred Million. Both of these folks are always on our top read priorities. There is an interesting dialogue emerging. Take a look at Joel Kotkin's recent post, then Richard Florida's piece in the recent Atlantic magazine.
Job Creation may be stronger than believed:
After employing comprehensive job data from www.youreconomy.org, a pretty interesting job creation picture appears. Here are some bits of information. Between 1995 and 2001 (The Great Expansion) an estimated 28 million net new jobs were created representing nearly 400,000 jobs created per month throughout this period. Between 2008 and 2009, during the depths of the Great Depression, an estimated $3 million jobs were destroyed. But recent estimates for 2009 through 2010 indicate 4.96 million jobs were created on net representing over 400,000 jobs per month. Now this data includes both full and part-time jobs. We are doing additional drill down into what is behind these numbers. If you want to be a part of this exploration and conversation, email Don Macke at don@e2mail.org.
