Keys No. 1 - Local Responsibility
|
Last month we introduced our 2013 Entrepreneurial Communities series focusing on the keys to economic development in today's world. In January's thought paper, we reviewed our top 10 keys to local economic development success. This month we are focusing on key #1 or Local Responsibility. Monday night before a packed house of 250 chamber of commerce members from Marion and Hillsboro, Kansas, I talked about the unique nature of America's economic development approach. Bottom line, in the U.S. we are extraordinary internationally because local communities have the prime responsibility for community economic development. While federal, state and even private development resources and programs can help - they do not define or lead local development. Our thought paper this month explores a deeper meaning into this very important key to economic development success - local responsibility. As is always the case, we want to hear from you. Email don@e2mail.org with your questions and comments.
