 Don't Let Your Food Spoil!
Learn how to prolong the life of your vegetables
If you have vegetables that you do not want to cook at the moment, freeze them and use them in the future! Follow the steps below for a quick and easy way of preserving your food. Steam Blanching: - Heat vegetables in a pressure cooker, oven, or frying pan.
- Cool vegetables quickly and thoroughly to stop the cooking. Do so by plunging the vegetables into a cold water (60 degrees Fahrenheit or below).
- When vegetables are cooled, drain thoroughly.
Packaging: - Dry Packing: Place vegetables in freezer bags or containers. Reduce amount of air in the package by packing tightly. However, leave some space for the food to expand.
- Tray Packing: Place vegetables in a single layer on trays or pans. Freeze until the vegetables are firm and then replace vegetables into bags or containers. (Tray packing prevents vegetables from freezing in a block and keeps them separate.)
Make sure to label your bags with the name of the product and freezing date. After following these steps, your vegetables will be preserved for twelve to eighteen months.
