Give the Gift of Advocacy...

As a policy and advocacy organization working to create strategic social change, we often find ourselves explaining that while we don't do direct services in a traditional sense, there are life-altering results to the work we do.
At Community Alliance of Lane County, we believe our public charge is to create access to decision-making and pockets of power within political, economic, social and institutional systems so that resources and rights can be distributed more justly. Sometimes, this takes the form of direct action, or as one of our young organizers likes to say "taking it to the streets!" Other times, this takes the form of a determined stretch of strategic conversations with those people who have the power to make things happen--whether that means a reallocation of funds or the changing of unjust laws and policies.
As you consider your gift-giving choices this holiday season, we hope you will take a moment to consider what sort of gift you are able to make to the future--what sort of world would you like to help create? As my mother was known to say, "change is inevitable" but what sort of change would you like to contribute to? Give a gift of advocacy this December--whether in the name of someone you love and care about or as a loving gift to your neighbors and community.
