We have big plans for 2013:~ Our workshop series will expand to include Civil Engagement, Access to Power, and Know Your Rights Trainings focusing on young adults and other communities that have traditionally been marginalized in the political process.
~ CALC will host evening drop-in English groups for native Spanish speakers.
~ Truth in Recruiting will continue to speak out on the atrocities of pervasive sexual assault in the military~ In the community and on campus, our peace work will highlight the devastation caused by drones overseas and the threat they pose to civil liberties here at home.
~ Our "Neighbors Without Addresses" photo exhibit will kickoff with opening celebrations in Eugene and Springfield.
... and many other exciting prospects like rolling out our new CALC webpage, increasing youth involvement in all programs, publishing the CALC Cookbook and numerous meaningful events. So much to do!
But, we really need you to understand, we are rich in effectiveness and poor in dollars.We struggle daily to meet all of the increasing operating expenses and try to do so as frugally as possible, and as justly as possible. Our director only makes a few dollars more per hour than the rest of the staff, no huge salaries here. We spend nearly $15,000 per year to offer employee health insurance. Sure, we don't have to, but we've made it a priority. We have a lovely building in the Leslie Brocklebank Peace and Justice Center, but it costs a lot to heat and maintain.
To meet these costs we really need your support today. 2012 was a difficult year financially for CALC. We will persevere as always, but we need your help to do so.
For 2013 we have identified some new grants to pursue, are looking at how we can increase business support and are exploring additional collaborations that may help us increase our revenue stream. But right now, today, it's you, our supporter, who can make all of the difference by
