Dear friends,
As we at Community Alliance of Lane County (CALC) reflect on last year's work and plan for 2013 we feel inspired and challenged by the 46 years of strong activist work that has preceded us. Yet, after all of these years, there is still so much which we feel compelled to do to make our world more just and peaceful. For a very small staff, we have lofty goals and we want to live up to the high-standards set by our predecessors, so this is where YOU come in.
This time of year you have numerous organizations appealing to you for support. While there are many worthy causes, here is why you should include CALC in your year-end giving:
~Your dollars act as an agent of change, right here where you live. School districts are implementing gender-neutral bathrooms, cities are learning how to better integrate immigrants, creative solutions to houeslessness are being sought and your neighbors are being exposed to ideas that challenge stereotypes and break down barriers. You help make these things happen by supporting CALC!
~ CALC gives you a voice. When we meet with elected officials they know that CALC staff are on-point activists representing the sentiments of thousands. In the past year, CALC has had dozens of meetings with city officials from both Eugene and Springfield, County Commissioners and legislative aids for our congress-people and senators. We urge them to bring the war dollars home, to hold the military
accountable, to change laws that are biased against the unsheltered, and to effectively challenge hate activity. They know you, CALC supporters, are active, informed and you will not be ignored.
~ When you give locally, like local shopping, it keeps your dollars in our local economy. We use local, small business, and independently owned vendors whenever possible. CALC has very low administration expenses, unlike those flashy national campaigns, and we strive to pay our employees a living wage and offer health insurance. Tons of bang for your buck!
Over 60% of CALC's revenue comes from individual supporters like you. You truly do hold the future success of CALC in your hands. We are relying on you to help us
face new challenges, enact bold changes, and hold institutions accountable. This h elps us continue to build a vibrant community where we all want to live. Be bold, give local and support CALC.
Best Wishes for the New Year,
Kori Rodley
