Greetings!
The posting of events does not imply an endorsement of the sponsoring groups or their political views. We post events sponsored by other groups when we think the topics will be of interest to CALC's members and friends. Often we have a close working relationship with those groups, but not always. Only CALC-sponsored or co-sponsored events carry our specific endorsement.

The Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is a worldwide event organized to remember and honor the lives lost each year to transphobic violence. TDOR began to honor Rita Hester, whose murder inspired the first TDOR in San Francisco in 1999. We gather together on this day each year to remember and honor all the lives of those we have lost, and to rededicate ourselves to preventing future violence against Transgender and Gender Nonconforming people.

IWW Movie and Sing-a-long:Joe Hill
7 pm/Monday, November 19th
@ Cozmic/8th & Charnelton
Sponsored by the Lane branch/Industrial Workers of the World
In the early 1900's, the legendary Joe Hill emigrates with his brother to the United States. But after a short time, he loses touch with his brother. Joe gets a few jobs but is struck by all the injustice and tragedy going on. He becomes active in the forbidden union IWW, a union for workers without trades. It is forbidden to demonstrate and to speak in public but Joe gets around that by singing his manifests with the Salvation Army. He manages to get more and more people to get on strike with him but he also makes powerful enemies doing that. Finally he gets connected with a murder and during the trial he fires his lawyer and takes upon himself to become his own defender.

ESSN: SOLIDARITY ACTION ALERT: Show Support for Local Grocery Workers
We have been asked by our brothers and sisters of the United Food and Commercial Workers to support them in negotiating a new contract. Our local grocery workers have been without a contract for over 20 months!
Please join us at the Fred Meyer store at 650 Q St. in Springfield next
Wednesday, November 21 at 5:30 pm.
We will meet up in front of the outside Chase ATM machine. This action will be fairly low key and consist of leaf letting at the entrances of the various doors of the store. At this point we have no plans to go inside the store.
Please find the time to turn out for this important solidarity action.
Let's help our local grocery workers get a contract in time for the
holidays!
Also, if you have not signed their petition, please click on this link:
Then download a copy (attached to this email) and circulate it among
friends, family and co workers. Once you've got one or two (or even more!)
sheets filled out, bring them to the action on Nov. 21st at 5:30 pm. Over
13,000 people have signed this petition. Make sure you are counted in the
final tally.

| The Sand Mandala: Creating a Picture of Universal Compassion
Downtown Eugene Public Library, 10th & Olive, Free
Opening ceremony: Friday, November 30, 10:30 a.m.
Construction of mandala:
Friday, November 30, 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.;
Saturday, December 1, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.;
Sunday, December 2, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Closing ceremony: Sunday, December 2, 4:00 p.m.
The Monks of Drepung Loseling Phukhang Monastery, visiting from South India, will build a traditional Tibetan Buddhist Sand Mandala at the Downtown Eugene Public Library over the course of three days.
An Opening Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 30, from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., and a Closing Ceremony will be held on Sunday, December 2, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to watch the process at any time on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, when the Downtown Library is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.
The Opening Ceremony will consecrate the site with approximately 30 minutes of chanting, music, and mantra recitation. Then the monks will begin the exacting work of drawing the lines for the design of the mandala. Throughout the following days, the monks will skillfully pour millions of grains of brightly-colored sand from a funnel-shaped metal tool known as a "Chakpur," creating an astonishingly detailed work of art. During the Closing Ceremony, the monks will dismantle the Mandala, sweeping up the colored sand "to symbolize the impermanence of all phenomena, teaching that everything that exists has a beginning, a middle and an end."
