Harvest Fest is Coming Soon!
Mark your calendars for the 2016 Harvest Fest on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 5-8 p.m. at the pavilion and soccer field.

Celebrate Fall with Cow Chip Bingo, Trunk or Treat and a Beer Garden at HARVEST FEST! Take a chance at winning $5,000! Purchase your $25 Cow Chip Bingo tickets by Wednesday, Oct. 12th. You may purchase as many chances to win the $5,000 as you would like, but the event is FREE to attend!

Register your car for the Friends & Family Fellowship Ministry's annual Trunk or Treat by contacting Dina McNeill at mcneillrealtor@gmail.com.

Harvest Fest activities include: Cow Chip Bingo, Trunk or Treat, Parade of Costumes, Pie Auction, Children's Games, Beer Garden, Cornhole Tournament, DJ and Dancing, 50/50 Drawing, and more! You can form your Cornhole Tournament team now ($10 per team) by contacting Carl Trabulsy at ctrabulsy@aol.com. Win a custom made Cornhole game made by Jeff Bolbach!

What is Cow Chip Bingo you ask? Cow Chip Bingo is a game that pits your luck against the gastronomical actions of a cow. At the Harvest Fest event, a cow will be let out on a fenced-in area marked with the numbers of the raffle tickets sold and if the cow does "what comes naturally" in your square, you have the chance to win $5,000! Ticket holders do not need to be present to win.

We need every student and every family to participate. The minimum amount of tickets we need to sell to make the event a success is 1,000. Each student will be required to sell 2 tickets each by Oct. 12. The potential to sell up to 5,000 tickets exists and would raise a substantial amount of money for the school helping to keep your tuition costs down. Anyone can purchase a chance to win the money and ticket holders do not need to be present to win.

Student prize incentives include:
Most Tickets Sold - 1st place - $500; 2nd place - $250; 3rd place - $100
Top Class Prizes - Top Class Sales (Pre-K-4) & Top Class Sales (5-8) - Pizza and Moooooovie Party

As more incentive, we will offer prizes and special turn in days:
  • Thursday, September 29 - Free Dress Day for two or more tickets sold/turned in by this day (Free Dress date TBD).
  • Thursday, Oct. 6 - Special Prize for one or more tickets sold/turned in on this day.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 12 - Free Dress Day for three or more tickets sold/turned in on this day (3 tickets need to be sold between Sept. 30-Oct. 12). (Free dress date TBD).
Tickets are only available through the Development Office. Click here for an order form. You may pay by check or your St. A's Payment Plan. Tickets will only be sold until Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 3:00 p.m.

Kindergarten News
Having a Dino-Mite Time in Mrs. Smith's Kindergarten Science Class
Mrs. Smith's class started a 2 week Dinosaur Research Project a couple of weeks ago and they learned about different types of dinosaurs, what they ate, when they lived, and how they looked. For a fun enrichment project, Mrs. Smith dressed up like a "mad scientist" and took the children to the STREAM lab to perform their first science experiment: creating a volcano. They learned through their experiment that, just like a real volcano, some made large eruptions and some made small eruptions. The children had a BLAST!

The class wrapped up their unit of study on dinosaurs last week. They learned about what paleontologists study and the tools they use to do their work. As a fun activity, they hunted for chocolate chips just like a paleontologist might do when hunting for dinosaur bones. The children were patient and determined to carefully dislodge the chips from the cookie. On Wednesday, the children created dinosaur fossils using clay. It has been an amazing 2 week journey filled with lots of fun experiences.

Learning About Community Helpers in First Grade
Students in Mrs. Bush's first grade class are learning about community helpers this week. They scanned a QR Code on their tablets to hear a story about police officers. After they listened to the story, they completed a writing prompt about what they learned.

Second Grade News
Read to Someone in Second Grade
Students in Mrs. Steele's classroom are practicing how to Read to Someone, which is one of the Daily 5 choices. The Daily 5 is a framework for structuring literacy time so students develop lifelong habits of reading, writing, and working independently. Reading with someone helps readers, especially developing readers, increase areas of comprehension, accuracy, fluency and prosody. It also increases reading involvement, attention and collaboration. What's more, children love partner reading and readily participate with books of their choosing! Great job!

Eighth Grade Commissioning Set
Attention 8th grade parents: The 8th Grade Commissioning Prayer Service is on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. The time has been set earlier in order for our students to meet our NET Team.
Leading the Way in Eighth Grade
Our wonderful 8th grade students have been learning about planets and the solar system in science. They created various types of presentations and used their creations to teach our third graders what they learned! Their goal was to create an advertisement for travel to a planet or other destination within our solar system. They shared with the students how long it it would take to arrive to their destination, what supplies they would need to survive and all the interesting things to see and do. Their movies, slide presentations, posters and brochures were outstanding! What a great way to learn and share information with others!

Girl Scouts Have Fun Ice Skating - Submitted by Amber Bertram, Senior Girl Scout Troop 40410
"So what do you do in the middle of the hottest time of the year? Well you escape the heat by going ice skating! That is what I did over the summer with my Girl Scout troop. It had all the things I enjoy: friends, Girl Scouts, and cool temperatures! We all had fun skating and watching others skate, and then the fun continued once we got outside. Outside the rink there was a pile of shaved ice that the Zamboni dropped off. We had snowball fights and also built a snowman! Overall we all had a great time and this was the event of my summer.
