Merry Christmas from St. Anastasia Catholic School
Dear Parents,
The culture of encounter is growing at St. Anastasia! We are so blessed to live in a community where diversity is celebrated and children are provided the gift to grow in their faith, give back to their community, challenge their intellect, and improve their health. As we enter into the joy of Christmas, I am very thankful for how we are coming together through our events, our worship, and our strategic plans.
We have many exciting plans for the new year that I am looking forward to sharing with you in January. Based on the number of tours we are giving, the increases in our enrollment and the successful Open House, we are prepared to celebrate another year of growth in 2016.
The following projects and priorities are highlights for 2016:
Thanks to our Endowment Fund and the generous Board of Directors, the school has purchased 260 new tablets and 10 charging stations for students in K-4 classes! These tablets will be distributed to the classrooms in the first week of January and will remain in the classrooms for school use only. First grade through fourth grades will have enough tablets for each child to have their own! Each Kindergarten classroom will receive 8 tablets to use in their learning centers. Our Primary teachers have been using these new Android Tablets for the past month and have been given the opportunity to pick their favorite learning apps to be installed on the tablets.
Fundraising is underway for our $200,000 goal to build the 90th Anniversary Playground. We are still in search of donors who are willing to support the purchase of the playground equipment and flooring. We must have the entire amount raised before we commit to contractors on April 1st. We are hoping to raise the remaining funds soon so that we do not have to postpone this much needed capital improvement for another year.
We are excited to introduce our new ePortfolios to our students and parents! In January of 2016, we will host parent information meetings to share the benefits of these new ePortfolios. These ePortfolios will provide unlimited storage for student work, pictures, videos, and other projects that the students want to permanently keep. It will also organize student goals and provide parent and teacher access to important records that have traditionally been kept in paper files. We are looking forward to the effect this tool will have on communication and learning objectives!
Please keep Christ in the center of your Christmas and encourage the students to embrace a spirit of mercy as we begin this new year.
Yours in Christ's Service,
Kevin Hoeffner, Ph. D.
Principal

Fifth Grade News

On the day before Thanksgiving break, Christmas came early for all of Mrs. Springsteen's Fifth Grade students! Each student received a book that was beautifully wrapped in Christmas paper. From there, the book report came to life as they read the book, completed graphic organizers, summarized, and used the provided rubric to bring their book to life. Take a look at this video that shows the progression of this fun project from beginning to end. Merry Christmas!
