90th Anniversary Strategic Plan
The school and church community of St. Anastasia have embraced a productive process for planning our bright future. Please review the Strategic Planning brochure produced by the Institutional Advancement Committee and sent home in last night's Thursday folder. In the past two years, we have hired consultants who have guided our school and church into ongoing and dynamic Strategic Plans for the church and school. This engaging community experience related to the school has:
- developed an administrative vision for 2018;
- created thoughtful three-year goals and annual objectives implemented by committees;
- encouraged communication and collaboration with the Palm Beach Diocese, local Catholic organizations and John Carroll High School, and;
- opened new opportunities for bold vision, better accountability and improved fundraising.
We have become more mission-driven and created foundational documents that help direct our programs, curriculum, budget, staffing and facilities. We have strategically increased enrollment by 8% in the past two years, initiated new events and academic programs, made many capital improvements, and further developed our communication and fundraising.
The School Advisory Council (SAC) has been instrumental in the development of our Strategic Plan and will continue to lead committees that encourage the participation of families, parishioners, and local business leaders. As we celebrate the school's 90th Anniversary and imagine the exciting changes that will occur in the next 10 years, we encourage you to learn more about the governance of the school, our vision, the excellence that we are so proud of, and the ways in which you can help.
I am sure that if you are familiar with the school, that you have seen the results of these plans as we recreate a school that is responsive to the needs of our community, rigorous in its pursuit of academic excellence, passionate about health and wellness, and always prioritizing spiritual formation.
The 90th Anniversary Campaign will focus the community's attention on the rebuilding of our playground. We hope that you will assist us on this ambitious capital improvement. As we build structures and renovate rooms, I ask you to never lose sight of the diverse priorities that are addressed in our strategic plan that may not be as concrete as capital improvements, but are sometimes more important to our core mission.
Your dedication to developing the future of our community is greatly appreciated. As children and families personally witness the joy involved in following Christ, I believe that we recognize the school's true purpose. I hope that as you become vested in our strategic plan that you will also feel that same rewarding sense of purpose that comes from being involved in Catholic education.
May God bless you and your family!

Odyssey of the Mind
|
Dear Parents,
We will, once again, offer the Odyssey of the Mind® program at St. Anastasia as an after school Enrichment activity! This activity would be open, by invitation, to all divergent thinkers.
WHAT IS ODYSSEY OF THE MIND®? Odyssey of the Mind is a program where students will build contraptions, design and paint props, make costumes, write scripts, make decisions, take risks and have fun with creativity. Students work 1-3 hours a week learning self-confidence, evaluating ideas and solving one of five problems. No adult assistance is permitted in this process. (Hands off, mom and dad!) A coach (or two) is required; however, the coaches' responsibilities are primarily to keep the team on task, supervising, finding materials and guiding the kids in their problem solving, guiding the team through the rules of competition, and asking questions to keep the team thinking in the right direction. Coaches' also work with the team to practice spontaneous problems and teach basic skills the team might need (such as sewing,) and transport the team to shop for good "stuff," such as paint, wood, fabric, pvc pipe, spray foam insulation, balloons ... (hey, you never know what a creative team might need.)
DO TEAMS COMPETE? Yes, in March teams perform their solutions. This is a day of excitement and pride! However, the emphasis in Odyssey is on the process, not the product, and every team that successfully solves the problem is a winner. Students learn that scores can be subjective, but skills they learn and the self-confidence they gain are absolute and last a lifetime! The tournament is a celebration of creativity.
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! We are very excited to offer this wonderful program, however, we need volunteer coaches to make it happen! This is not a large commitment! If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Tricia Goulet at 772-291-3319. We hope you will join this new and exciting learning adventure! |
Junior Master Gardener Program
| We will soon be starting a Junior Master Gardener (JMG) program on Monday, September 21st. This program is modeled after the highly successful Master Gardener program for adults, and is supported through 4-H and the St. Lucie County Extension Office.
The JMG program helps young people become good gardeners and good citizens. Like the Master Gardener program the JMG activities offer horticultural and environmental science education to interested young gardeners. The JMG program incorporates group and individual activities using a teacher/leader guide book full of information, activities, and opportunities for the students to earn JMG certificates. Local Farmers &/or Certified Master Gardeners will visit with the students throughout the year to answer questions and help with some of the activities.
The Junior Master Gardener program will meet every other Monday after school beginning September 21st, from 3:30-4:30 and is open to interested, motivated students in 5th through 8th grades.
In addition to the certified activities, the JMG students will also be helping with miscellaneous gardening tasks.
Please complete & turn in this form contact Mrs. Steele via e-mail if you are interested in becoming a Junior Master Gardener. dsteele@saintanastasiaschool.org.

Cub Scouts have lots of fun, adventure and activities with the den and pack. But there's more to it than that. Being a Cub Scout means being a member of a worldwide youth movement that stands for certain values and beliefs. Cub Scouting is more than something to do. It's all about the boy he is and the person he will become. If you have a boy entering 1st through 5th Grade and want him to be part of a GREAT organization, please call Beth Pantano at 786-266-8016. Scouting is a ministry of St. Anastasia. If you are looking for a way to fulfill your family's ministry obligation, please consider becoming part of the Pack 473's leadership team. We have several summer activities planned. You won't want to miss these "getting to know you" opportunities for parents and scouts.
