Yep, it's cute. Click here to see a video for it. Trevor is the one who came in and introduced us to this ingenious book stand. He was charming and a very good demonstrator. |

| Courtesy of Rob Brewer. I find this disturbing. Especially how reading declines after childhood. Do you know someone who could be reading more?

Dear Reader,
Don't forget, Erin Dealey will be here on Sunday at 4. Deck the Walls is a fun book and it will kick off our holiday season well. We'll be asking what school your family attends because Erin will be donating a school visit to the school with most in attendance.
Here's a little video from some of her younger friends in Michigan.

We've been conducting book fairs in the last couple of weeks and experimenting with how to do it online. So far it's working well, go to the website and take a look at what is under the School tab.
That's also where we'll put School and Classroom Wish Lists from our local schools when we have them.
Happy Reading,
Luan

Hild by Nicola Griffith $27 A brilliant, lush, sweeping historical novel about the rise of the most powerful woman of the Middle Ages: Hild In seventh-century Britain, small kingdoms are merging, frequently and violently. A new religion is coming ashore; the old gods are struggling, their priests worrying. Hild is the king's youngest niece, and she has a glimmering mind and a natural, noble authority. She will become a fascinating woman and one of the pivotal figures of the Middle Ages: Saint Hilda of Whitby. But now she has only the powerful curiosity of a bright child, a will of adamant, and a way of seeing the world-of studying nature, of matching cause with effect, of observing her surroundings closely and predicting what will happen next-that can seem uncanny, even supernatural, to those around her. Working from what little historical record is extant, Griffith has brought a beautiful, brutal world to vivid, absorbing life. Just One Evil Act by Elizabeth George $29.95 Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers is at a loss: The daughter of her friend Taymullah Azhar has been taken by her mother, and Barbara can't really help, Azhar had never married Angelina, and his name isn't on Hadiyyah's, their daughter's, birth certificate. He has no legal claim. Azhar and Barbara hire a private detective, but the trail goes cold. The Coldest Night by Robert Olmstead $14.95
Henry Childs is just seventeen when he falls into a love affair so intense it nearly destroys him. To escape the wrath of the young girl s father, Henry joins the Marines, arriving in Korea on the eve of the brutal battle of the Chosin Reservoir the defining moment of the Korean War. There he confronts an enemy force far beyond the scope of his imagining, but the challenges he meets upon his return home, scarred and haunted, are greater by far. From the steamy streets of New Orleans to the bone-chilling Korean landscape, award-winning author Robert Olmstead takes us into one of the most physically challenging battles in history and, with just as much intensity, into an electrifying, all-consuming love affair. He's someone everyone should read. Time Management for Cats by Alison F. Bowman $6.99 This is a humor book (duh, I know) by a local author. Cat people, you know who you are and why you may need this book. The Hormone Cure by Dr. Sara Gottfried $28 A Harvard physician's scientifically proven method to improve physical and mental health by optimizing the hormones in the 30s, 40s, and beyond. Dr. Gottfried combines natural therapies with rigorous scientific testing to help women feel fully alive, especially in the years prior to menopause. We had her in the store recently for a private event, and she's great. I've been reading her book now for a couple of weeks and have gotten a much better understanding of the types of hormones and how to help balance them. She starts with lifestyle changes, then goes to proven vitamins and supplements, and then if you need more help recommends how to talk to your doctor. I recommend this book very highly. Luan @ 52. I wish it had been available 5 years ago. And finally, for our doggy lovers:
Underwater Dogs by Seth Casteel $19.99 From leaping lab to diving dachshund, the water is where a dog's distinct personality shines through. These 80 portraits by award-winning pet photographer and animal rights activist Casteel capture new sides of old friends with vibrant underwater photography.
Shake by Carli Davidson $17.99 Original, amusing, and brilliantly documented, Shake is a heartwarming collection of sixty-one beguiling dogs caught in the most candid of moments: mid-shake. This glorious, graphic volume will stop you dead in your tracks as you are presented with images of man's best friend caught in contortion: hair wild, eyes darting, ears and jowls flopping every which way.
