Eye from the Edge, his rememberance of growing up in West Oakland

Dear Reader,

Hey! Valentine's Day is next week. Thursday to be exact. Are you thinking of a great gift or card?  If it's something that's expected of you, you have been warned.

What about a sketch book? Or poetry? Or a great novel? Or a set of really awesome soap? Or Bananagrams that you can play together? Or a travel book and tickets to the country? Or good armchair travel to get lost in. Or a local guide book and promise of a day trip? Or a favorite children's book? Or a cookbook and your favorites marked- yours or your sweeties?  Or heck, get a cookbook and make dinner. For a week. The possibilities are endless.

Then we have some cool events coming up. Need to be more organized but don't know where to start? Come to the store on Friday at 6 to meet Pam Consear and start the process. How about wanting to hear some good fiction? Saturday at 6 we have J.Douglas Allen-Taylor and his new novel Sugaree Rising. The 14th is romance writers for lesbians. The 17th at 3pm is Reinventing the Chicken Coop for your feathered friends.

Never a dull moment at Laurel Book Store.

     Come and browse!

Don't forget we have some great used books! Watch for our Used Book Blowout very soon!

 Happy Reading,

 Luan

PS: Sundays have been pretty slow so we're going to take the day to stay home and read after the 17th. We usually close on Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor day each year, so we're just moving it up a bit. Until then- stroll on in for some nice quiet browsing after brunch at Full House.

Caldecott Medal Winner
this is not my hat
This is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen $15.99
The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
I like to think of it as an award given to the book in which the illustrations and words make little sense apart, but together are an amazing thing. This book is exactly that!  We have a few first editions for the collectors among you.

We now offer ebooks on our website through Kobo. They're a company with over 3 million ebooks in their library and growing every day.

We have a display so you can see how they work and we can get you one fairly quickly too! We also have chargers and covers so you can be outfitted nicely.
We are happy to show them off to you.

Book Club News   Open to all, drop on in!

We'd love to have more people join our discussion group! Please join up now! Just read a book and show up at 7 on the appointed day.
