It's time for

Apply to be a giver
Volunteer book givers are central to World Book Night U.S., putting wonderful books into the hands of light or non-readers in their communities. On April 23, 2012, U.S. book givers personally handed out half a million printed books in 5,800 towns and cities across the country. And we're doing it again together this year! We provide the free books, and the book givers seek out light or non-readers, especially people who may not have access to printed books for reasons of means or geography. Book givers receive 20 free paperback copies of one World Book Night title, not too many to carry but enough to share with a good number of potential new readers. Are you interested in becoming a World Book Night U.S. book giver? We ask you to fill out the World Book Night U.S. online application; click here to begin. You will be asked what your first, second, and third book choices are, why you wish to share these books, and where you will go to personally hand out the books. Apply by January 23, 2013. Thank you for supporting World Book Night U.S.! LINK HERE CLICK IT NOW! | |

Dear Reader,
Happy New Year! We have lots to share!
First is that World Book Night is happening once again this year, in April. To be a giver, please sign up by January 23. That's January 23! There's info and a link off to the left down the page so go for it. Do you know of an organization that caters to underserved readers? You get to choose one title to give a quantity of them to a worthy group of people who need books. Start thinking now! And sign up.
We've been looking at what worked and what fell short last year, and also compiling bestseller lists. We had some pretty cool books show up on the lists and many local authors. We love local authors. How many did you read last year? What will you read and talk about this year?
We're looking at what sidelines, games, book-related items and supplies we want to add for this year, so if you have any suggestions, let us know. We love to know what you think.
And I want to make sure you know about the Kobo. There's lots of info down the page so take a look, come in and kick a tire or two. Read on it and see what you think.
Happy Reading,
Luan

Up until January, we offered the ability to download ebooks from our website through Google ebooks. That partnership is over and we now offer the same through Kobo. They're a company with over 3 million ebooks in their library and growing every day. I have a friend who writes lovely cozy mysteries but they've gone out of print. But wait! They're available for download from Kobo. There's also a large number of free books there too. You can download the free Kobo app on any device, except Kindle, and start reading right away. And you can purchase books from our website through them as well. You can browse by subject, or by title, author or other specific means. Kobo Glo Kobo Mini For a limited time, we still have three each of the devices too! We'll be able to get them for you when you like, but now's the time when we have them in stock. The Glo sells for $129.99, the Mini is $79.99. The Glo features the best reader light for night reading that I've used. The screens are touch, the font able to increase, (not that I need that or anything at my age) and the set up was easy. We have had a Glo for the store that each of us has used, and while I think I speak for the staff in that we each prefer paper books, this was a pretty easy and useful reader. Right now, if you purchase a Kobo reader from us, not only is the reader already linked to our store, but we'll give you a download of The Art Forger for free. Not a bad way to get started! If you're thinking of getting a dedicated ebook device, please stop in and see what you think of these. Our first sale was to a man who was buying his sixth Kobo because he didn't have the mini and wanted it for the size and ease. We also have chargers and covers so you could be outfitted nicely.
