Yitro
(Exodus 18:1-20:23)

Moses is reunited with his family.  His father-in-law, Jethro, advises him on sharing administrative responsibility.  Following, the people gather and prepare themselves for the climatic moment at Sinai.  In one of the pinnacle moments of the Torah, God is revealed and gives the Ten Commandments.

Then, the GRS Sisterhood invites you to come and join us.  We welcome knitters of any age, gender or ability!  We would love to see more new faces!

Adult Ed Class
Sunday, February 3, 10:30 am

Rabbi Rothman will not be at GRS this week.  In his absence,

the class will be doing a reading of the book of Esther -- specifically, focusing on the differences between the biblical text and the version that we normally read to our children.

Please click on the following link (which gives the text and a bit of analysis).

http://www.beingjewish.com/yomtov/purim/esther_intro.html

Sisterhood Hamantaschen Baking
Tuesday, February 19 (time to be determined)
At the home of Eve Goldberg

Once again, Leslie Dobryn has graciously agreed to coach us through the dough making, rolling, filling and baking.  And once again, Eve Goldberg has graciously offered her kitchen!

Most of the baked goodies will go to the residents of Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Center on Sunday, February 24 (the Rabbi and JFS will be taking a group at 2pm), but there are always enough left for the bakers to take some home!

Purim Actors & Costumes Needed!!

Purim Shpiel No Purim is ever complete without a Purim shpiel - a play of the Megillah (story of Purim).  But a shpiel needs actors!  We've gotten a few volunteers, but we would love more involvement!  There will be no memorization of lines, as narrators will be on hand for those who are shy to speak.  We also will not need much rehearsal time for us to present a short, entertaining re-enactment of the Purim story.  Adults or kids who are interested, please contact Stephanie at stephanieglaser@grs.org.

Also for the Purim shpiel, children and adult costumes are needed, including dress-up clothing, funny hats, glasses and masks.

Costumes for boys/men are especially needed.

Thank you!

Empty Nester Support Group: After the last child leaves for college, mothers often find themselves with a unique opportunity to reinvent themselves. But it is not always so simple. It can be challenging to find other ways to occupy their newly free time.  And it's sometimes difficult to reconnect with their spouse, let alone developing a new kind of relationship with their child   But perhaps what is most problematic is the  lack of sympathy from people who believe that parents should be happy when their children leave home.

At JFS, One Holly Hill Lane, Greenwich

Facilitated by Linda Schlapfer, LMFT
