Torah Portion November 10, 2012
| Chayei Sarah (Genesis 23:1-25:18)
We learn that domestic issues dominate the rest of Abraham's life. Sarah's death introduces the portion. Abraham responds by purchasing the cave of Machpelah (in Hebron) as a burial place. After his mourning ends, he sends his servant, Eliezer, to find a wife for Isaac in order to ensure his legacy. Eliezer encounters Rebekah, whom Isaac marries. With all accomplished, Abraham dies peacefully.

GRS - Weathering the Storms Together
Dear Friends,
The Shabbat before last, our GRS family celebrated the more than three decades of our history, bid a loving shalom to the Edward and Suzanne Baron Cohen Sanctuary, and rejoiced together as we formerly installed our new president and board of directors as we looked ahead to our future!
While last Shabbat was slated for the annual GRS Fall Fest, Hurricane Sandy slightly altered our plans. However, this coming Friday our festive evening will take place. Indeed after the past two weeks of wild weather, to say the least, power outages, and challenges both great and small, our celebration should be the perfect elixir!
While the lights were out in our new office facility, and in many of our homes, the GRS family shone as bright as ever. Meetings took place, members gathered together, and last Shabbat, Susan and I were delighted to welcome some twenty adults and children from our congregational family for dinner (and for some, a warm bed).
This Shabbat, we look forward to formally hosting the Fall Fest at our home. All ages are welcome. Please bring your favorite beverage and a non-perishable food item for those in need in our community.
Looking forward to being together on what may very well be, a white Fall Fest!
B'Shalom,
Rabbi Andy
Rabbi Andrew R. Sklarz, MA, MSW, RJE
