Torah Portion October 27, 2012
| Lech-Lecha (Genesis 12:1-17:27)
Abram (Abraham) receives his awesome call. God instructs our forefather to embark on his journey to Canaan and create a great nation. Bypassing Canaan, Abram and Sarai (Sarah) sojourn to Egypt, where they have their first encounter with Pharoah. Also within the portion, Ishmael is born to Hagar. Lech-Lecha concludes with God changing Abram's and Sarai's names to Abraham and Sarah and making an eternal covenant with Abraham and his descendents.

| A Message from Rabbi Sklarz |
| |

Join us in Saying Shalom: Congregational Board Installation and a Fond Farewell to the Edward and Suzanne Baron Cohen Sanctuary as WE EMBARK UPON the NEXT CHAPTER of GRS!
Dear Friends,
Shabbat with our GRS family is always special, but Friday October 26 will be historic in so many ways. While every installation marks an exciting new day for a congregation, and at this juncture we invite you to share with us as we formally install GRS president, Robert Birnbaum, our Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, we will celebrate the history of our congregation, as we embark upon the future of GRS! At this final Shabbat in the space which has been our sanctuary for the past twenty years, we will look ahead to all that our future holds!
I look forward to our sharing this special night together.
B'Shalom, Rabbi Andy Rabbi Andrew R. Sklarz, MA, MSW, RJE
With the goal of creating a GRS Memory Box, kindly send your photos, artifacts and personal pieces (in prose or poetry) which share significant moments in our history to Denise at denise@grs.org.

GRS Architectural Search and Design Working Group
|
| |
Andrew Loebelson, Sandy Soule, and Helen Stark invite you to become members of the GRS Architect Selection Working Group, which will be undertaking the exciting and challenging job of finding the architects who will design the new home of GRS. We'd love to have you on board, but do want to give you a preview of what will be involved:
1. We'll meeting often, between two and four times a month -- maybe a bit more at the beginning, perhaps a bit less at other times. Our first meeting will held at 12 noon on Tuesday, October 30 at the home of Sandy Soule. 2. We'll also be visiting area synagogues, churches, and schools, to see first-hand the work of architects we're considering, and will also be making phone calls to check references. We'll be seeing several more area congregations before our first meeting; let us know if you'd like to join us.
3. We'll be reviewing RFP's (request for proposals) returned by the architects we're considering. 4. We'll be surveying congregants to get their feedback on aspects of synagogue design and function that they consider priorities. 5. Once an architect has been selected, it's expected that the work of the committee will segue into the actual design process, which will involve working with the architects as well as keeping the congregation informed and involved.
Although it's understood that not everyone will be able to attend every meeting, working group members need to be able to attend a majority of meetings. At our first meeting we'll try to set dates/times that work best for most people; if you can't attend our first meeting, please let us know your scheduling needs.
