Spring has sprung, testing is over, and the school year has begun to draw to a close. However, the legislative session is in full swing, and LAPCS continues to advocate for
policies and laws that protect charter autonomy and promote accountability.

Veronica Brooks, our Policy Director, sends weekly updates regarding the progress of important bills. If you have not received those e-mails and wish to be included, please contact us.

We wish you, your faculty/staff, and students continued success as you begin wrapping up the school year and invite you to reach out to us with any charter-related questions you may have! Thank you for all you do to improve educational outcomes for Louisiana students!

Best,
The LAPCS Team

  • BOARD MEMBER FINANCIAL DISCLOSURE FORMS DUE MAY 15th!

All current charter school board members (and those who served last year) must submit a 2013 Tier 3 financial disclosure statement with the Louisiana Board of Ethics by May 15, 2014. You can download the form here.

If you are required to submit a higher-ranking financial disclosure statement with the Board of Ethics for other reasons, then you only have to submit the highest-ranking form. More information about disclosure statements and the Board of Ethics can be found at http://ethics.la.gov/PersonalFinancialHome.aspx.

Note: please do not submit your forms at the last minute, as the phone and fax lines will most likely be jammed due to the high volume of statements that will need to be filed on May 15, 2014.

  • NEW NAMI PROGRAM: PARENTS AND TEACHERS AS ALLIES

NAMI New Orleans, the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will begin offering a new NAMI signature program,Parents and Teachers as Allies, this summer. This two-hour in-service program focuses on helping school professionals and families within the school community better understand the early warning signs of mental illnesses in children and adolescents. Participants learn how to best intervene so that youth with mental health treatment needs are linked with services. The program also covers the lived experience of mental illnesses and how schools can best communicate with families about mental health related concerns.

Parents and Teachers as Allies is led by a trained team including a school professional, a parent of a child with mental illness and a young adult who experienced symptoms while in school. If you would like more information about bringing the Parents and Teachers as Allies program to your school, please contact Renee at [email protected] or at (504) 896-2345.
