PiggyTOP GUNS

Pikes Peak United Way's Tocqueville Society is flying high this campaign season thanks to the outstanding efforts of its two Co-Chairs, local philanthropist Gayle Beshears and real estate expert Kevin Patterson. Known to many as  "Maverick and Goose," these two Top Guns have secured 59 Tocqueville members to date, with 7 pending, for a total of $1.085 million towards this year's campaign goal - a fete even Tom Cruise and his movie sidekick Anthony Edwards would admire.

"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world."
Jack Layton

Regina5 STAR 5 DIAMOND CAMPAIGN

The Broadmoor not only knows how to provide unparalleled hospitality, but also how to conduct award-winning campaigns.  This year, under the leadership of Campaign Coordinator Robin Flynn, the hotel scored big with 100% employee participation while continuing to serve as a valued Cornerstone Partner and financially reaching out to those in need through the Waldo Canyon Fire Assistance Fund.

Every November, the Broadmoor sells pies to benefit PPUW.In addition, employees raised just under $29,000 in special-event dollars selling everything from cars, couches, candy and pies to hosting tennis and golf tournaments, all under the guiding hand of Wayne Hoskins, who champions everyone and makes Leadership giving fun!

Pikes Peak United Way's Women's Leadership Council invites you to join Colorado College President and Economics Professor Jill Tiefenthaler as she examines the cost, value and quality of higher education.

Will student debt be the next credit bubble?  Find out these answers and more at the WLC Lunch-n-Learn, April 23 from 11:30a.m. -1:00p.m. at the Cheyenne Mountain Conference Center. Cost:  $20 per person. RSVP by April 19th to Lori at 955-0739.

QLI2-1-1 NEW HOURS

To better serve those in need during hours that are more convenient for them-primarily before and after work - 2-1-1 Information Specialists will now be available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays thru Fridays, excluding holidays, to connect callers with the resources they require. These hours go into effect May 1, 2013.

NonprofitDayA MATTER OF PERFORMANCE

Allocation Mid Cycle Reviews are in full swing now as approximately 70 dedicated and trained volunteers are busy conducting Program Site Visits across the community. A total of 40 Safety Net Services and 13 Success By 6 programs are being evaluated.  The key questions asked: Are the programs previously funded meeting their goals in terms of their outputs, efficiencies, and outcomes?  And are the funds being used as initially stated?

Upon completion of the review process in May, Volunteer Team Leads will make recommendations for second year funding to the PPUW Board of Trustees, whereupon a final decision will be made by month's end.

At approximately noon on Saturday, June 23, 2012, the Waldo Canyon fire was ignited killing two people, burning 346 homes and forcing the evacuation of over 32,000 local residents in its wake.

In response, donors, both local and national, contributed $940,299.93 to the Waldo Canyon Fire Assistance Fund, generously seeded by the El Pomar Foundation and administered by Pikes Peak United Way at no charge, to assist local nonprofits directly supporting El Paso and Teller County nonprofits impacted by the fire.  For your review, a detailed 6-month interim report of funding allocations is now available online at the PPUW website.
