THIS LITTLE PIGGY MADE MONEY FOR CAMPAIGN
| |
When the employees at Current decided to incorporate a fun-filled slate of events as part of their fundraising strategy this year, they had no idea how successful they would be.
Raising only $500 the previous year in special event revenue, they surprisingly jumped to almost $10,000 this year -- and had a ball doing it.
Upon conclusion of their campaign and the "Pig Out for PPUW" raffle, one unlucky exec (of the employees' choosing) had to dress up in a pig's costume for all to see. Joined by his fellow execs, attired as wolves and known as the "Pig Posse," they made the rounds handing out candy and personally thanking all the employees for their support of Pikes Peak United Way and those served.
The following family portrait was captured in Current's photography department. Say "Cheese!"

FLYING HIGH
| |
Imagine winning a $500 gift card from Frontier Airlines! Anyone attending a PPUW campaign presentation from September through January of this year could register to do just that.
At the end of the 23-week period, 46 finalists' names had been drawn (two lucky individuals per week) and the winner, Morgan Dechampes from Cheyenne Village, walked away with the prize!
His wish: to fly his youngest daughter, who he hasn't seen in several years, in from Maine.

CHAMPIONING YOUR CHILD
Most parents want to be an effective advocate for their child's education, but simply don't know how.
In order to help, the Alliance for Kids, together with the Colorado Children's Campaign and Pikes Peak United Way's Success By 6 program, recently presented "Parents: The First and Best Education Advocates" training in February at Pikes Peak Community College.
Specifically designed to educate parents and guardians of children to advocate for their kids so that they get the most out of their education, the workshop attracted over 60 enthusiastic participants, providing sessions on everything from Early Care and Education to Prevention and Intervention, Gifted and Talented Programs and Special Needs.

DEFINING QUALITY OF LIFE
The 2013 biennial Quality of Life Report for the Pikes Peak region, an unbiased, statistical look at how our community is performing in 11 key sectors, will make its sixth debut this coming fall.
In the meantime, over 150 dedicated volunteers are presently hard at work accumulating up-to-date data which in turn will enable community leaders to identify trends, set priorities and make informed decisions about policies and actions that deserve investments of time, talent and resources. More updates to come! Until then, you can check out the QLI website for more information.

JUST HOW MANY NONPROFITS ARE THERE?
How many nonprofits call Colorado Springs home -- about 739, not counting faith-based and academic organizations or you'd be looking at close to 2,000!
These providers of much needed programs and services were heralded at the recent 2013 Nonprofit Day, giving those in attendance the opportunity to learn, network and celebrate their accomplishments thanks to the sponsoring efforts of Pikes Peak United Way and The Center for Nonprofit Excellence.
