2012 was an eventful and successful year for Pikes Peak United Way 2-1-1.  2-1-1 was activated by the El Paso County Office of Emergency Management on June 23rd to assist with the Waldo Canyon Fire.  For 10 days, 24 hours a day, 2-1-1 was ensconced at the Emergency Operations Center to ensure the most up-to-date information was being disseminated to ourCO 211 neighbors, such as mandatory evacuations, road   closures, shelter information for both people and pets, and other vital information. Once the fire subsided, 2-1-1 staff were present at the county's Disaster Recovery Center to offer direct assistance to those affected by the fire.  In addition, we also provided the Waldo Canyon Fire Relief & Recovery Guide to the community that helped connect fire victims to the resources that were available to them in the fire's aftermath.

The 2-1-1 Advisory Council has taken steps to address service gaps in the community and is currently working on an innovative pilot project called SELF (Striving Everyday for a Life Fulfilled) in conjunction with several agencies and organizations.  More information regarding the SELF program will be made available in the coming months.

2-1-1 also collaborates on several task forces and coalitions throughout the year in an effort to make our community a better place to live.  None of what 2-1-1 does could be accomplished without the efforts of the agencies and organizations we partner with on a daily basis.  Thank you to all of you and we look forward to serving our neighbors in 2013!

2-1-1 is a free, confidential easy-to-remember three-digit phone number that connects people in need with the health and human services they require.  Each year thousands of Coloradans receive referrals for help with utilities, rent, food/meals,  shelter or transitional housing, clothing, healthcare, dental care or assistance with numerous other challenges.
