"As a community of believers, we seek God's guidance
and direction through prayer in all that we do
as a church and in all aspects of our daily lives."
Prayer is the first of Central's six core values.
|

by Cathy Cryer
Once again, Central will host a gathering later this month of the National Prayer Leaders from across the country. In return for our hospitality, they will tackle your tough questions about prayer!
Something's been nagging at you about prayer? Wonder about that unanswered prayer? Have you questioned why sometimes it feels like you are talking to the ceiling, when your friend seems to have a direct pipeline to answered prayers? Is it best to sound like King James English when you pray?
Consider any and all prayer questions you have and bring them with you to the Tough Questions Prayer Event in Gilbert beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 29.
The answers will be served up prayerfully, and with an espresso bar, from a panel of Prayer Leaders who serve as Directors of Prayer or lead Prayer Ministries of various kinds. Their leadership takes many forms from pastoring, to praying for celebrities in Hollywood, to speaking and teaching on prayer, writing books or devotionals for prayer, to driving mobile units around the nation praying for national concerns, etc.
They all have a heart for prayer and have many years of experience in many venues from which to draw their answers for you.
When they met here at Central the first time several years ago, we offered a similar night open to questions from members and guests. It was a vibrant night of discussion, considering the power of prayer the Lord has gifted us with. You won't want to miss this new opportunity!
More information about the event will be provided via an email blast to you and from announcements at worship services very soon. Watch for them and save the date!

Jamie W. To Speak At School Of Prayer
On February 8, 2015
by Jasmine Faccone
How does a former policeman from the West wind up overseas and face 10 years in prison for insulting Muhammed?
Ask former law enforcement officer Jamie W. whose experiences in the police department were where God began to teach him about lost people. If you had talked to Jamie back when he was a police officer on the streets encountering what he referred to back then as "the night people", he would have told you those people were desperate and no one really seemed to care about them. Jamie was drawn to those lost and tragic figures of the night and began to try to work with them.
At that time Jamie had no desire for global work and his heart was far from God, but eventually he gave his life to Christ and God totally changed his world.
After seminary, Jamie and his wife went overseas where they worked as educators and interacted with the locals. Soon, Jamie and his wife had 70 students over to their house to hear about Jesus. But their strategy to reach the unreached in that area of the world did not bear any fruit. So Jamie sought God for answers on what went wrong. His approach not only resulted in a lack of committed Jesus followers, but it wound up getting him arrested. He was accused of insulting Muhammed and the punishment for a conviction was 10 years in jail.

Praying as a Friend of God
by Mike Fleming
In September, we were privileged to have Andrew D. speak at Central's School of Prayer. Andrew comes from overseas where he is a missionary, and his ministry includes a Prayer Room. He shared insights from those who pray in that Prayer Room. Taking time to be with God in a relationship and in a two-way communication of talking and listening are necessary. Andrew then focused on a third aspect of prayer--being a friend and forming a partnership with God.
Andrew reported that being and praying from the position "as a friend of God" gives the prayer a unique insight into the heart of God. Knowing the heart of God places the prayer in a "partnership with God" where God can delegate authority to accomplish His will. He felt praying from this special relationship enables God to release His power through us. Here are a few Scriptures that show God's desire to be in a partnership with us as friends.
In Exodus, God spoke to Moses as a friend. "The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp..." (Exodus 33:11a). Moses partnered with God and guided the Israelites throughout all the years of living in the desert.
