Why Would Anyone Want To Take A
Prayer Journey?
By Paul Covert
I think it would be better stated "Why would anyone not want to take a prayer journey?"
I sat down today and reflected on the trips I have taken and how they have enriched my life.
1) More gratitude. You don't have to be in most of the countries we travel too long until you realize how good we have it. Our major roads are paved and we usually have hot showers. We use the markings on roads as lanes instead of suggestions. I never return from a trip that I don't thank God that I live in the USA.
2) It is much easier to pray for Global workers effectively once you have seen their work environment, seen the place they live, and experienced first-hand some of their struggles. I remember visiting Somaliland a couple of years ago. The terrain is some of the most desolate I have ever viewed and water is worth more than gold. The workers were helping the people find ways to store water and begin micro businesses. Their life conditions were particularly hard and it made it much easier to pray for the nation and the workers there.
3) Nothing sparks your prayer life like praying. On a prayer trip we spend much of our time praying for global workers, their families, their work, the people they are working with, and the nation they serve. You will find, when you return, that your prayer life is much improved and that growth carries over to the prayers you pray not only for global issues, but for things here at home too.
4) You get a heart for the nation you visited that can't be duplicated by reading books or watching a video. My first trip was to Romania. I remember visiting a gypsy village and watching grown women fight over getting medical treatment for their children. It was heartbreaking and marked me for life.
How about you? Are you ready for the challenge? The next Prayer Journey is to Africa in May or June of 2015. We will work with a noted global worker, Andrew, and his team. I am convinced it will be a life changing experience for all of us.

Central Christian Church Embarks On The Story
The Bible has been called "The Greatest Story Ever Told" and countless versions, from the King James to the NIV, give us the story of God and His Creation. It tells us about God's purpose and His purpose for us. Through it we learn and understand "our story."
What if you could read a chapter of the Bible every week and understand your story as well as God's in 31 weeks?
Well, Max Lucado and Randee Frazee, the developers of the book "The Story," thought just that when they took the real life stories from the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, and condensed it into this one continuous story to help readers experience scripture in chronological order and understand the path of their stories through God's purpose.
Coming August 23 and 24, Central Christian Church and its congregation will begin to read The Story together. Just one chapter a week for 31 weeks to understand the context and purpose God had for His story and ours.
Central's core value is prayer and we recognize that prayer is what opens hearts to come to the Lord. So we've provided a bookmark with some prayers asking everyone participating to pray for God to give favor to your life and your family's lives as you experience this journey together.
We encourage you to attend the beginning of The Story on the weekend of August 23 - 24 and every service after that as we study The Story together.
We all have a story and it is interwoven with God's story. Please join us!

Each year, the 24-7 Prayer Event draws over 1,000 people to pray for at least one hour around the clock and inspires participants to new levels and ways to pray.
Creative, interactive, exciting, and inspiring, the 24-7 Prayer Room consists of 10 stations with varying activities and types of prayers related to the overall theme. The theme this year is "Prayers From the Bible."
In years past, we have focused prayer on passages from the Sermon on the Mount, the book of James and 1 Peter. We also have created stations that focused first on a topic needing prayer, such as homelessness or persecution of Christians.
But this year, we decided to go straight to the prayers from the Bible, prayers spoken by Jesus Himself, or David or Daniel, for instance, to learn directly from those prayers how to model and express our own prayers.
Save the dates now and plan to offer up one hour of prayer and grow in this incredible, powerful gift God gave us: prayer. Even if you are new to Central or to prayer, please come and discover the impact and power of prayer. The stations and instructions in them will help guide you through an hour that most likely will feel like just a few minutes.
Novice pray-ers each year tell us they think they'll never make it for the hour, but then find themselves leaving three hours later, in love with spending time with their Lord in prayer.
Come as an individual, a couple, a family, or a life group. Just plan to come.
Registration will be available mid-September. Watch for it and sign up for one hour!

Prayer And Provision For Christians In Iraq!
The situation for Iraqi Christians continues to be very dire. Those Christians who had to flee Islamic extremists to escape the "convert or die" ultimatum have lost everything but the most important thing of all--their faith in Jesus Christ. Many have nothing but the clothes on their backs. In an article at usatoday.com, an Iraqi Christian asks "What is our future?" Watch a CNN report that poses a similar question. Christian organizations are offering humanitarian aid and support. What can we do to help? We can keep giving and praying. A local woman says, "Pray for everything that is going on here. Pray that we as adults will be strong amidst these times of turmoil, but also pray for our children." Read more at christiantoday.com.
Christians Gather To Pray For Schools And Educators
All across the USA, it's "Back to School" time once again. Hopefully, many Christians across our nation are remembering our schools, both public and private, in their prayers. About a year ago, a woman felt a need to pray for her local school system. She took action and a local event was born. A handbill for the event reads, '"Prayer is a priority when it comes to reaching our schools for Christ. ... A team of praying people may have a significant influence at your school."
