A Written Interview with Mark Batterson,

Speaker at the 2014 Prayer Conference

By Cathy Cryer

Dear Mark,

We are so looking forward to having you return to Central to talk with us at our Prayer Conference again Friday, Feb. 7!

Thanks for being an effective, Biblically-based voice on prayer in a culture and time that desperately need to hear it.

We look forward to comments from and about not only "Circle Maker," but also "Draw the Circle," and "Drawing Circles Around Your Children."

In preparation for your coming to Central, we would love to "talk" with you personally about your books and speaking, and how God is moving in and through you and them.

Cathy: When you present to groups using information from "The Circle Maker," what is your greatest hope they will take away with them and put into practice in their own lives?

Mark: If people read the book, but it doesn't change their prayer life, I've failed as an author. So my goal is simple: Read the rest of the interview here.

Has there ever been a time in your life when someone said these words? "You really need to take a long, hard look at yourself in the mirror."  If so, under what circumstances?  Was that person upset with you? Had they hoped you would change your thinking or felt that perhaps you were unqualified to pass judgment?  Was it someone who truly cared about you who thought that your life was headed in the wrong direction and hoped that some self-reflection would be a wakeup call for you?  No matter what the circumstances, if you did take that long, hard look, what did you see?  If you're considered physically fit, perhaps the reflection was easy on the eyes.  If you fell into the category of being overweight or if years of hard work have taken its toll on your body, perhaps the image was not so desirable.  But, what if this long, hard look was not about being physically fit, but something deeper?  What if you were asked, "Are you spiritually fit?" What does it mean to be spiritually fit?  Do you think you can get there on your own or could you use the help of a life coach?

PRAYER FROM 17 FATHOMS UNDER THE SEA

On the ocean floor, some one hundred feet below the surface, a sailor was trapped within an airlock aboard a tugboat. However, as Romans 8:39 tells us, "neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." As the hours passed and the temperature in the airlock dropped to freezing, the sailor called out to God and recalled Psalms he had read the night before. This is an amazing story!  Read the article and watch video of the rescue at latimes.com.
