Central Prays at All Five Campuses

Extended 10 days this year, Central's 24-7 Prayer Event moved to all five Central campuses and drew 780 members and friends to pray for at least an hour through passages taken from 1 Peter brought alive in interactive stations. This year again, the 24-7 Prayer event also reached many who were able to participate online.

Organized yearly by the Prayer Ministry at Central, led by Prayer Pastor Paul Covert and Associate Prayer Pastor, Cathy Cryer, this year the 24-7 team included more than 200 people. Those helping designed stations for the Prayer Room, served as hosts around the clock, provided security from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and helped people sign up to pray.   Read about the events of the week here.
100 For Christmas

Every year we set a goal and try to get a huge number of people in the prayer rooms for Easter.  This year we will be doing the same thing for Christmas.  That's right! We will try to get 100 people to join us for Christmas in the prayer rooms at all of our campuses to pray for the Christmas services.

Who can join in? Anyone

Where do I go?     Go to the prayer room on your campus:

In Mesa, go to the North Prayer Room which is backstage on the same side as the baptistry.

In Gilbert, go to the East Prayer Room which is also backstage on the same side as the baptistery.

In Queen Creek, go to the men's dressing area back stage.

In Glendale, go to Room 109.

In Ahwatukee, go to the lobby area just outside the auditorium hallway.

Do I have to be the world's greatest prayer warrior to attend?  No. Just be willing to pray for those attending the services.

What will the time encompass?  Each service will have a prayer leader who will guide you and the others through the time of prayer.  It will be very inspiring.

Can my small group come as a group?  You bet!

How do we sign up?  Sign up now to ensure you get the service that works best for you!!!

Elevate Generic
Christmas Ideas From

Our Prayer Conference Speaker

By Cathy Cryer, Associate Prayer Pastor at Central

Looking for Christmas ideas for special people on your list? Who would have thought the guest speaker for our next Elevate Prayer Conference Friday, Feb. 7, would have some great ideas for you?

Mark Batterson, author of "The Circle Maker," "Draw the Circle," and "Praying Circles Around Your Children," will speak to us in February about prayer and bringing it powerfully alive to bear on our loved ones and circumstances, culture and community.

But he also offered some great, practical, prayerful gift suggestions as I read through all three books. His purposeful approach to prayer in all of life -- even in gifting -- is why I encourage all Prayer Newsletter readers to save the date now and plan on hearing what he has to tell us in person on

Feb. 7!

In the meantime, however, I'll share a few ideas that really struck me for some special people in my life come Christmas. See if you have special people on your list who just might find these ideas perfect under their tree!  Read more here.

Time Alone with God

Moments at Ahwatukee

Mark 1:35 says "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed." Have you set aside a special time in which you set out to seek God in prayer at a specific time and has God made Himself known to you in ways you didn't expect? Time Alone with God is just such a special time and can have a lasting impression on participants. Well, recently Pastor Corey Bullock of Central's Ahwatukee campus, was able to share his experiences at a Time Alone with God event in Ahwatukee. Here's what he wrote:

Praying for Prayer

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

Corey Bullock - Ahwatukee Campus Pastor

I recently spent a morning with a group that went out for a half day of prayer through Time Alone with God.  It was one of the hardest things I have done in a long time.  My mind wandered.  I found myself repeating things that I had already said.  I was restless and wanted to be anywhere besides wrestling with prayer.  I have often prided myself in my capacity.  I am able to get a lot done and typically work best in an environment where I have time constraints or tasks that require me to do lots at once.  However, I have found that being still is much more difficult in this society than doing much.  Emptying oneself is a greater challenge than the ability to multitask.  For me it really comes down to productivity.  My greatest fear is that I will be ineffective and unproductive, so I keep busy to make sure that this won't happen.  Somewhere along this path I bought into a lie.

"If I am busy and getting stuff done, then I am productive."

What if, however, the most productive thing I could do was to pray?  I love how E.M. Bounds gives a picture of men who grasped this concept.

"God to them was the center of attraction, and prayer was the path that led to God.  These men prayed not occasionally, not a little at regular or at odd times; but they so prayed that their prayers entered into and shaped their characters; they so prayed as to affect their own lives and the lives of others; they so prayed as to make the history of the church and influence the current of the times.  They spent much time in prayer, not because they marked the shadow on the dial or the hands on the clock, but because it was to them so momentous and engaging a business that they could scarcely give over."

"Threshold" The Book By Paul Covert Is Finally Here!

Threshold: Tranformational Prayer, Transformational Prayer Leadership , written by Pastor Paul Covert of Central Christian Church, has just been released and you can be the first to get your copy.

Take a look at what others are saying about this dynamic book:

"Paul is an innovative leader in the prayer world who leads prayer ministry on five campuses weekly. You will find the ideas in Threshold: Transformational Prayer, Transformational Prayer Leadership helpful, practical, insightful and-most important-reproducible."

-Mark Batterson, New York Times best-selling author of The Circle Maker

"What is the biggest component missing from the church these days? Vision? Passion? Commitment? Nope! What's missing most is prayer! Prayer is something most of us believe in far beyond our practice. For the past ten years Paul Covert has led our church to become passionate about praying. Not talking about praying, but praying. On this subject Paul is both an expert and a champion. If you want your prayer life to light up and to ignite your church in prayer, this book is a must-read. Far more than mere theory, this book will give you the practical steps that will lead to genuine transformation."

-Cal Jernigan, Senior Pastor of Central Christian Church of Arizona
