LIFT Prayer Night Takes Off

In Queen Creek

by Jerry Burke  - QC Prayer Team Member

The English language is fascinating and must be a bit frustrating for those trying to learn it. The very same word can often times have two or more different meanings. Lift, is one of those words. It's a noun with different definitions and it's also a verb.  Work is another word like that.

One definition of lift, from Merriam-Webster, is this one: the component of the total aerodynamic force acting on an airplane or airfoil that is perpendicular to the relative wind and that for an airplane constitutes the upward force that opposes the pull of gravity.

So let's see if we can apply that to the prayer ministry.  Can we say it like this?   If the church is the plane, and God is the engine, we are the wings and our prayers are the "lift" necessary for the plane to rise and fly.  Kind of a loose translation, but give me a break, I'm an old truck driver, not an aeronautical engineer.

When I first got involved in the prayer ministry, it was just a test drive sort of thing. I never considered myself to be a prayer warrior, but I was invited to give it a try.  It also gave me the chance to hang out with a pretty cool dude named Paul Covert, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity. In addition to being a great guy, Paul just happens to be the lead pastor of the prayer ministry at Central Christian Church. How's that? Yes. Our church, to insure the implementation of one of its core values, hired a man with an incredible heart for prayer, who teaches people about prayer all over the country, to lead and develop our prayer ministry. He's right here in the palm of our hand. Wow.

Central Prayer Teams

Cover Promise Keepers Event

Central's Prayer Team has been given the honor of an invitation to lead on two fronts at the Promise Keepers event in Phoenix Friday night and Saturday, May 17 and 18!

*Paul will take a team to man the Prayer Tents and pray with any men who come there in need of prayer during the event.

*Cathy will take a team of women to pray prior to the events of both days.

This is a huge event and a huge honor, Paul explained. It will be held at Grand Canyon University, with thousands of men anticipated to attend.

Paul and his team of 12 guys will be praying with men who have addictions, family and marriage issues, faith questions, and other struggles as they might be touched on by the speakers during the event.

"We have built a great team,"  Paul said, "and we can't wait to see what God is going to do with this."

Cathy is building a team of women who "understand how important it is for women to stand with and pray for the men attending such a powerful and impacting event. The results of this weekend will, in fact, touch many women's and families' lives immediately and into the future."

Pray-ers at Easter!!

Upping the goal each year for Easter Intercessory Pray-ers, this year, the Prayer Team leadership set the goal at 130 people total in all the Central Campus Prayer Rooms! These intercessors were to pray over the services, all who served in them, and all who attended. Because so many are first time visitors at Easter services, the Prayer Team understands it is critical to have prayer covering all aspects of the Easter services and our special guests.

God responded to our larger goal by blowing our doors off!   We wound up with 182 people in the Prayer Rooms!

We had small groups,  teens, husbands and wives, and lots of individuals join us for prayer.

We even had a couple who were there by mistake!  They thought they were going to be prayer partners instead of intercessors.  As they came into the prayer room, Paul was explaining how intercessory prayer works during our worship services.

The man looked surprised and uncomfortable, and, in a few minutes, he left.  As he left, he said, "This is not for me."  The woman stayed and started to pray with the rest of us.

A few minutes later, the man returned with a guilty look on his face.  When he sat down next to his wife, he said, "God told me I was supposed to be praying, so here I am."

They both said they loved it, and God was incredible, as always.

Anyone can join in the excitement anytime. Just show up in the Prayer Room on the campus you attend, and a team of people will welcome you in joining them for prayer.
