In Life Groups
In the Moment
Teaching About Prayer...
By Steve Hutchins
Life Group Pastor
God has impeccable timing.
Two weeks ago, our life group meeting took a short turn from the topic and began a discussion on prayer. Two of the men in my life group are small business owners, and they said they just don't think of prayer in the moment. When something hits them, they don't think to turn to God in prayer. They just react and solve the issue with their own power and giftedness. Both men do this very well as they are gifted leaders.
One of the two men then added that he wasn't sure that God answers prayers in the moment. In fact, he continued, "It seems a little over-spiritual and people that want to stop and pray about everything seem a bit odd." He didn't stop there, "It is also irritating when people pray really loud for a meal in a restaurant to make sure everybody can hear. Pray, but keep it to yourself. You are not praying for everyone else, and God can hear your whisper."
There was a moment of silence and then the other man thought he would get something off his chest. He said, "My dad went into the hospital two days ago, and I have not even bothered to find out what is going on. An employee of mine overheard me talking about this to my wife on the phone. As I hung up, this employee asked very politely if she could pray for my father's health and my relationship with him. I thought for a moment and flatly said no. I just don't think prayer is going to change him at this point."

Exciting Life Coaching
Life Coaching Can Be Exciting and Transforming! It's something the Prayer Team has added to our opportunities for deeper growth in relationship with Christ and prayer here at Central. As Paul Covert explains, "It's not for lightweights!"
The 26-week vehicle we have chosen is a one-on-one mentoring process which teams one man with one man, and one woman with one woman, or, potentially, one couple with one couple.
The Life Coaching process requires at least two hours of homework in between weekly sessions. It is a Biblically-based course with heavy application of the truths found in the Bible. Life Coaching helps people move past the "What the Bible says to do," to living according to the Biblical pattern. It forces each participant to be honest about areas of struggle so they can get help. It is painful at times, but, oh, so helpful. As word gets out about this powerful tool in God's hands, more and more Central people have asked about it. There is a waiting list of women wanting to be coached, and a couple, and perhaps several men also waiting. To help those waiting get a taste of the coaching and hold them over until someone is available to mentor them, the Prayer Team has scheduled a class-format event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 26, in the Mesa Chapel. Our speaker is Randy Murphy, Executive Director of Called To Obedience Ministries, the program materials we have chosen for the Life Coaching here at Central Prayer. Randy will present some of the core teachings from CTO, including how to deal with control issues, a hot topic for people in our culture today. Read More Here Sign Up Here |

For those of us fortunate enough to live in the United States it is difficult to comprehend the terrible persecution that Christians are facing in Saudi Arabia and throughout the Mideast. Read an article and watch a report from Fox News.

The five Christians, members of the Church of Iran, are to be tried for charges that include evangelism, threatening national security, and internet activity against the system.
