Wyatt Farms Newsletter

Greetings!

After what seemed like an eternity, Easter Egg delivered her first kid on April 1, 2013.  Please welcome to the farm, Peep.

It is so fun to look around and see the signs of spring.  Birds are building their nests anywhere they can.  This bird hid her nest between plants in a flat, we didn't discover it until a customer bought the plants around it.

Our resident geese are even p
reparing for babies.

We have so exciting plants arriving at the farm (many are pictured below), come fill up on some blooms for your yard.  We have a huge selection of Azaleas and Encore Azaleas, as well as Gardenias, Knock out Roses and Loropetalum.  Don't miss our larger tree inventory, featuring Dogwoods, Redbuds, Japanese Maples, and much more.

We are also very excited about our Miniature Garden Competition on May 18th.  This is a fun project for all ages.  Check our Wyatt Farms website for more information, or click here .

You can plant squash, cucumber, and bean seeds directly in the ground after April 15th.

Fruit Trees and Small Fruit
It is a great time to plant fruit trees and shrubs.  We have Moonglow and Kieffer Pear trees, Brown Turkey Figs, Premier and Brightwell Blueberry Bushes, Miscadine vines and Fuji and Gala Apple Trees.

Perennials and Annuals

Tis the season for Annuals and Perennials!! Need a little color in your life?  We got it and tons of it.  Beautiful hanging baskets dripping with blooms!  We have awesome Boston Ferns and Kimberly Ferns. Beautiful new annuals arriving weekly for your containers and for annuals beds.

Be sure to check out the large selection of perennials too.  It is so much fun to watch them break their winter sleep and come to life.  Some that are blooming now are Phlox, Dianthus, Columbine, Centaurea and Verbena.

Trees and Shrubs

Our trees and shrubs around the nursery have been offering quite a show! Eastern Red Buds and Dogwoods are beautiful right now. We have a very graceful Deodar Cedar called 'Feelin' Blue'.  Our Azaleas are showing their spring blooms as well as our Encore Azaleas. Pieris and Eleanor Tabor Indian Hawthornes look great right now.

Fertilize
As new growth emerges from your perennials, shrubs, and trees, you can fertilize them.  We have a large selection of fertilizers to choose from.

Daniels:  10-4-3 Quite possibly our favorite fertilizer.  This is a liquid fertilizer that can be used on just about anything.  Houseplants, annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees.  In the short time that we have carried this product we have heard great feedback from our customers. You will want to give this eco-friendly fertilizer a try.

Osmocote:  19-6-12  This a slow release granular fertilizer that can be used on houseplants, annuals, perennials and shrubs.  Osmocote is very easy to apply and lasts up to 4 months.

Fertilome Bedding Plant Food:  7-22-8  A granular fertilizer that is great on annuals and perennials.  This is a great fertilizer to liven up your pansies, perennials and snaps.

Miracle Gro Tomato:  18-18-21   This is a water soluble fertilizer that can be applied to all vegetables.

Milorganite:  6-2-0  This is an organic slow release nitrogen fertilizer that is non-burning and therefore goof proof.  It can be used on lawns, trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials.  Tests have shown that Milorganite can also deter deer.

Neptune's Fish/Seaweed Blend:  2-3-1 This is another organic fertilizer that is great on houseplants, annuals and perennials. The odor is intense but you can't argue with the results.

Happy Frog: 5-5-5 This organic all-purpose fertilizer contains live soil microbes, is great for your shrubs and trees and can also be used indoors.

10-10-10: This is your basic fertilizer but with added micronutrients.

GroSmart: 12-6-6 This eco-friendly fertilizer is a professional grade slow-release fertilizer for use on lawns, landscapes and home gardens.

We also carry Espoma's HollyTone and GardenTone

***Don't forget to enrich your soil as well.  Fertilizer alone will have a hard time working if you don't have good soil.  Enrich and enliven your soil by top dressing  with compost such as  Mushroom Compost -or you can make your own 'Compost Tea' and water your beds with it.
