NECF Speaking Proposals
GEO will begin accepting speaking proposals for its 3rd Annual National Equity Compensation Forum (NECF) on Monday, 4 February and continue accepting them until 22 March 2013. Anyone interested in being a part of the agenda is encouraged to submit a proposal; put your thinking caps on and plan to help GEO make this year's NECF agenda the strongest yet!

Nokia Introduces New Employee Share Purchase Plan
Source: Telecom Paper Nokia has given its approval to a new Nokia Equity Program 2013 and introduced a new employee share purchase plan. The Nokia Equity Program 2013 includes a new employee share purchase plan, performance shares, restricted shares and stock options. The programme is designed to compensate employees based on their performance and to ensure the recruitment and retention of talent vital to the future success of the company.

Final Word for Tax Shock Bill

Law, concluding that all the measures affecting companies were valid, but striking down some controversial provisions relating to individuals. Diligent Discloses Staff Share Option Blunder
Source: Share Chat Market darling Diligent Board Member Services is tidying up the way it grants share options to employees after finding it granted too many options to senior staff and did not provide a prospectus to others. The company, whose board members include former NZX boss Mark Weldon, has embarrassingly had to advise NZX and the Financial Markets Authority of the breaches.

Recommendations Made on Unapproved Share Plans

Government Gives go Ahead For New Employment Status
Source: White & Case On 3 December 2012, the UK Government published its response to a consultation paper on the Chancellor's proposal for implementing a new "employee shareholder" status. Whilst acknowledging that only "a very small number of responses welcomed the scheme", the Department for Business Innovation & Skills ("BIS") still intends to proceed with implementing the new employment status. It does not discuss stock options, restricted stock, stock appreciation rights, or phantom stock as these plans are rarely used outside the U.S. for broad-based employee ownership and no country has laws that specifically encourage their use for these purposes.
