Greetings!
Dear Parish Family,
Greetings in this mid-time of 2013 Lenten Journey. I pray and encourage you to keep up a Holy Lent.
I wish to share some pastoral news at St. Michael.
First, I have accepted the resignation of Lisa King our parish administrator. Lisa has served her parish for seven years. LIsa recognizes that at this time she needs to step back to be with her family, and to care for her mother-in-law.
Lisa's last day will be March 29. We will collect a purse for her and thank her on Easter Sunday, during the Easter breakfast. I have advertised the job and we are accepting names to be considered for the next appointment of our parish administrator.
Secondly, I will be on sabbatical this summer. A sabbatical is time for the priest to rest, reflect, and experience spiritual renewal. I will begin my sabbath on Monday, April 8 and return to the parish duties on August 16.
My time away will include 12 weeks sabbatical, 2 weeks continuing education time and one month's vacation.
Beverley will also be on sabbatical from St Bartholomew's, where she is Senior Associate Rector. We will spend 6 weeks in Australia, 2 weeks at St George's College, Jerusalem on a course, "The Palestine of Jesus," then 2 weeks in the UK.
The remaining time will be here in the States when we will play in our garden, do lots of catch-up reading and do visits. I may visits Kenya and South Sudan, depending on funds. We invite your prayers for us during our time together, at rest and in play.
During my time away The Reverend Dr. Spenser Simrill, PhD., has accepted my invitation to preach and celebrate on Sundays and some weekday services at nursing homes, and be on call for pastoral emergencies. Spenser is recently retired as a cathedral dean, and previously, he was rector of St Lukes, Atlanta. He has many pastoral gifts, is an experienced rector and preacher. I am grateful for Spenser's support for St Michaels and myself during our sabbath time.
with affection,
Fr. Paul Father Dr. Paul A. Elliott |

The Hunger Walk/Run -- an annual 5K walk and "fun run" begun in 1984 -- is a project of the Atlanta Community Food Bank that unites our community to raise awareness and critical funds for local hunger relief. Proceeds from the event benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank and other local nonprofit organizations that support food pantries, community kitchens, shelters and other programs for people in need of food assistance. These benefiting partner organizations help recruit participants and receive a percentage of the funds raised to support their direct hunger relief programs.
Whether you choose to walk or run, you'll join thousands of participants coming together to support our neighbors in need and celebrate achievements already made in the fight against hunger. The family-friendly, festival atmosphere at Turner Field's Green Lot includes food vendors, games, educational activities, live entertainment and more!
In 2012, more than 15,000 participants came together to raise over $560,000 to combat hunger in our community! This year, you can help make a real difference in the lives of your fellow Georgians by helping us exceed our fundraising goals. Take the next step and join us on March 10, 2013!
