Day One: Marked by God May 6, 2016

"Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm,
sealed with this inscription:
"The Lord knows those who are His," and,
"Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord
must turn away from wickedness."

MORNING MEDITATION
Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 2:14-26
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." (v.15).
We just completed the 40 day HARVEST journey, and the Lord has called us to come together as a united body of believers and wait upon Him for an additional ten days in prayer, just as He asked His disciples when He was taken up into heaven. On Ascension day, the disciples returned to Jerusalem worshiping the Lord, their hearts were filled with joy, and "they stayed continually at the temple, praising God" (Luke 24:53). This was a vastly different scene then what had transpired just 40 days earlier when they were hiding away in fear, unbelief, doubt, and despair after their Master had been crucified. But now, after having spent 40 days with their resurrected Lord, and appointed by God to spread the seed of the good news of the gospel of grace across the land, their hearts were filled with joyful anticipation as they waited on the Lord for the promise of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 1:1-11).
These first disciples were workmen approved by God to steward the sacred treasure of the Word of God. God's Word would be their tool for building God's kingdom, and it was their task to diligently study the Word, apply it to their own lives, and to correctly handle the Word of truth, so that the church would be built in the manner God purposed it. They were to be on their guard against false teachers who would come and spread false doctrine which would infect the body and lead some to fall away from the faith. Their own ministries would be tested to determine if they were rightly dividing the gospel that had been entrusted to their care. If they were diligent and skillful in their work, they would be approved by God and unashamed. Today we are to be diligent in our study of God's Word, and in all our labors for the Lord, so that we will be accepted by God and not ashamed when He comes to inspect our work.
God is building His "house," which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15b); and He has secured His foundation with a seal. The two-fold inscription on His sacred seal expresses both God's divine sovereignty and man's responsibility. God inscribed His promise that He would never lose one of His own, for "The Lord knows those who are His," and a call of duty to His elect to depart from iniquity and live holy lives, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness" (2 Timothy 2:19-20). Believers are marked by the Holy Spirit, and are therefore sealed and protected by God. God has set His seal of ownership on us. "Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession - to the praise of His glory" (Ephesians 1:13b, 14).
As believers, we are marked by the Spirit of God for His special use. We are God's chosen vessels, separated from the world, and set apart unto the Lord. Because of this, we are to keep our lives empty of sin, self, flesh, and the world, and available to be filled with His holy Word and His Holy Spirit, so we can be poured out as a drink offering to refresh a spiritually starved and thirsty world. The Lord has made a distinction in His house between those vessels which honor Him, and those that dishonor His holy name (2 Timothy 2:20-21). We are to become a beautiful instrument of God's grace, but this requires being separated from those things and people which contaminate and defile God's truth, and becoming intentional about pursuing the righteousness of God. This morning as we enter our prayer closets to put on our armor of light, our beautiful garments of Jesus Christ, let us ask the Lord to reveal those areas of our lives that are dishonoring Him and repent, and then ask Him to make us into honorable vessels, marked by holy lives that glorify Jesus Christ, and devoted wholly to our Master's service. "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship" (Romans 12:1).

AFTERNOON PRAYER
Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 9:1-11
"Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it." (v. 4)
God has His faithful remnant in every generation who carry on the work of the kingdom. They are marked by the Spirit and protected by God. Ezekiel was in Babylon when he was given a vision by God of the idolatry going on in the sanctuary of God in Jerusalem. God had dispatched His angelic army to Jerusalem to carry out His judgment upon the defiled city. However, in His wrath He remembered mercy and sent a scribe angel clothed in the priestly garments of linen, and wearing the writer's inkhorn, the saving weapon of the Lord, to mark the foreheads of the remnant so they would not be destroyed. The judgment of God began at His sanctuary, because His people had disobeyed His law. "For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God..." (1 Peter 4:17). But those who are marked by God, are set apart and protected.
The scribe angel marked the foreheads of those who were greatly distressed over the sins of the people, who were weeping over the ruin, and crying out to God in prayer. The distinguishing mark the mourners were given was the "tau" (tav), the last letter of the Hebrew alphabet, which looks like an "x" or the mark of a cross. Nehemiah was another servant of God who suffered great anguish over the ruins of Jerusalem (Nehemiah 1). He mourned, fasted and prayed, and interceded for His people, and God used him to rebuild the ruins. When Ezekiel saw the devastation of the destroying angels, he fell on his face to intercede. "Ah, Sovereign LORD! Are You going to destroy the entire remnant of Israel in this outpouring of Your wrath on Jerusalem?" (Ezekiel 9:8). God denied His servants request because the people could have prevented the ruin, but they chose not to.
The Lord preserves a remnant in each generation so they will pray and intercede, and be the salt and light in the world which will prevent further decay and darkness falling on the land. Today, we are ripe for God's judgment. It is time to reap what we have sown. The world is filled with filth, immorality and corruption, but God's eyes are upon His sanctuary and the corruption that is there. It is time for a housecleaning, a spiritual "turning over the tables" of worldliness, sin, and immorality that is infecting and weakening His body. God is raising up an army of intercessors who will consecrate themselves and be holy, and stand in the gap and pray, as He sends His rod of discipline upon His church to purify it and make it holy. God is cleaning house and reviving His priesthood so that we can join our faithful Mediator in the throne room in fervent, unceasing prayer. May we unite our hearts together, agreeing in prayer for God's purposes to be fulfilled in His church and for our nation. May all God's people be touched with the spirit of Nehemiah and Ezekiel, and with weeping, fasting, and mourning, grieve and lament over the ruin and the destruction that is upon us. God will set His mark upon His mourners and collect every tear in vials in heaven. "Those who sow in tears, will reap with songs of joy. He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him" (Psalm 126:5-6). This afternoon, let us spend time in personal repentance and ask the Lord to lay our hearts bare before Him, so our hearts can be consecrated wholly (and holy) to His; so we can be purified and prepared to step into our high and holy calling of intercessory prayer.

EVENING DEVOTION
Scripture Reading: Zechariah 3:1-10
"See, the stone I have set in front of Joshua! There are seven eyes on that one stone, and I will engrave an inscription on it,' says the LORD Almighty, 'and I will remove the sin of this land in a single day." (v.9)
God is re-establishing His priesthood. He is awakening His church and preparing a purified and holy remnant who will live separated from the world and set apart to God for His special purpose of joining the Lord in His High Priestly role of intercession before the throne. "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9).
Joshua, who is "symbolic of things to come," was the representative of the church, in his high priest role. He stood before the Lord in the place of service, but instead of his priestly garments being beautiful and glorifying the Lord, they were filthy rags. Though the enemy flung his accusations, the Lord in His grace forgave Joshua and dressed Him in garments of righteousness and restored him to service. "No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you" (Isaiah 54:17a). His shame was removed, and his nakedness was covered. "I will delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with jewels" (Isaiah 61:10). The crown of the priesthood was placed upon Joshua's head, and on the front was the inscription: "HOLY TO THE LORD." "Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as a seal: HOLY TO THE LORD. Fasten a blue cord on it to attach it to the turban; it is to be on the front of the turban. It will be on Aaron's forehead, and he will bear the guilt involved in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate, whatever their gifts may be. It will be on Aaron's forehead continually so that they will be acceptable to the LORD" (Exodus 28:36-38).
Zechariah interceded for Joshua and the turban was placed upon his head. God's intercessors are His chosen instruments for getting His work done in the land. When He is about to do His restoring work, God stirs up His people to pray, and responds in accordance to their prayers. How necessary is the work of prayer to God's work being accomplished in the world. Let us pray for an awakening of the hearts of God's people to the importance of intercessory prayer. God sent His church out to conquer the world, but first they had to wait in united and unceasing prayer for the power of the Holy Spirit. Their obedience to remain in one accord and prayer, bound together by the love and Spirit of Christ, is what gave them power in heaven with God and on earth with men. God has given His royal priesthood the golden key to the door of heaven to receive and dispense His blessings on the earth. We have been separated from the world, and it is vital that we do not fall under its influence or we will lose necessary power. God has set us apart to Himself, and we are to dwell in His presence and be saturated with Holy influences, so we can be equipped to do His work and lay hold of the blessing of heaven that He desires to give to the earth. "If you will walk in My ways and keep My requirements, then you will govern My house and have charge of My courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here" (Zechariah 3:7). If we will humble ourselves and pray and turn away from wickedness, like the inscription says, we will fulfill the requirements of Second Chronicles chapter seven, verse fourteen, and God will heal our land.
The Lord showed Zechariah the stone with His inscription on it - Jesus, our chief cornerstone and the foundation of the church, Who knows who are His (2 Timothy 2:19); and the seven eyes of His Spirit searching over the whole earth for hearts that are fully yielded to His so He can show Himself strong on our behalf (2 Chronicles 16:9). May we remain faithful to this call from God to unite in prayer for these next ten days. We have been given the extraordinary privilege of waiting on God - it is the highest form of worship we can give Him. Let us pray that God would restore His people to His heart and revive the holy work of supplication and intercession in His church. The power and blessing of the Holy Spirit is waiting for our united and unceasing prayer. Our unity in prayer will restore lost power to the church - the power of heaven is at our disposal. The door of heaven is open and the ears of Omnipotence are ready to receive and hear our prayers. May God prepare our hearts, and bind us together in the love of Christ, and make us a channel through which His heavenly blessings can flow to the earth. And may we see many perishing souls be won to Christ when Christ visits His church and breathes new life upon us and looses His wind into our sail! "Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live" (Ezekiel 37:9b).
