Morning Devotion: Feasting in His Presence - Read John 14:1-6

We left off yesterday at the shore of the Sea of Galilee where Jesus met up with His disciples on another occasion after His resurrection and fed them.  Jesus went on to tenderly restore Peter (see John 21:15-19); and in this sweet discourse we receive a blessed reminder that our Lord is a God of restoration and renewal.  He did not leave Peter to bear the weight of humiliation and shame for rejecting the One he loved so much; no, the Lord tenderly, but sternly, restored this wounded warrior and sent him back into battle. Jesus came to earth as the Bread of Life to nourish us and feed us with His life-sustaining and replenishing heavenly manna, Himself; and through His resurrection from the dead He deposited within us the fullness of His life so that we would be restored, revived and rebuilt!   Human life cannot be sustained without renewal from God. Apart from Christ's work on the cross and His resurrection from the dead our lives would continue to decay to the point of death.  Jesus fed His disciples with physical and spiritual manna so they would know the necessity of daily restoring the soul by feeding on the Word of God.  Without daily restoration in the Word and prayer we are ill-equipped to face the constant assaults and afflictions that are an integral part of the Christian life.  God's purpose all along has been to make us one with Himself, so we can walk with Him here on earth and live with Him for eternity in heaven.
 
Today, as we turn back a few chapters in the gospel of John, we receive further encouragement from our Lord.  "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me" (John 14:1). Jesus settles our troubled hearts by calling us to trust in Him (reference Proverbs 3:5-6). Jesus had just announced His upcoming departure and of Peter's denial, and this greatly disturbed His disciples.  How quickly we become unsettled when our circumstances change unexpectedly; but our Lord encourages us with this promise:  "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.  And where I go you know, and the way you know" (vv. 2-4). By lifting our thoughts, our eyes, our hearts, our hands and our concerns to heaven, all our sorrows and sadness are exchanged for joy and peace.  There is a home prepared and waiting for us, and our heavenly Father ready to welcome us. How greatly this should quiet our restless and weary hearts after we have traveled the road of this life - we will soon be home; and there is such happiness in returning home after a long journey! 
 
Our hearts should be overflowing with joy, peace and happiness after spending this past week looking upon our risen Savior and the wounds He bore on our behalf, and remembering the tender way He meets with us and comforts us in times of fear and uncertainty.  Jesus is the resurrection and the life!  And by believing we receive His life.  He has provided for us a new and living way to the heavenly Father.  "I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No ones comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6).  Jesus is the only way to the Father.  There is no other way, no other work, and no form of religion that can achieve for us what only Christ, in His sinless perfection, could do.  Jesus paid the enormous price for our sin by laying down His life as the sacrifice, and He opened the way for us to enter into the Divine Presence.  He alone is our Mediator. "Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body..." (Hebrews 10:19-20).  Jesus gained us access to the heavenly Father through His death (reference Ephesians 2:18), and has deposited His life within us through the presence of His Holy Spirit; we have experienced the power of His resurrection through believing in Him and have been transformed (and are being transformed) into His spiritual body which is to be used to lead the way for others to come to salvation. Christianity was called "the Way" in the early church (reference Acts 9:2); their message rested on the truth that Jesus Christ was crucified, buried and is now alive, and is the only way to God.  "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Paul, who once was a zealous persecutor of those who were of the Way (reference Acts 22:4), experienced the joy of salvation when he encountered Christ, and became a follower of the Way (reference Acts 24:14).  "I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us" (Romans 8:18).  May we make every effort to stay on the righteous path that Jesus has paved for us with His blood, and strive to walk uprightly in that Way so we can prepare the Way of the Lord's return (Matthew 3:3).  Let us draw near to the Lord in prayer, and remain diligent in the meditation of His Word, so we can hear His voice daily and know the way we are to walk.  "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it" (Isaiah 30:21).

"Show me Your ways, O LORD,
teach me Your paths;

and I will walk in Your truth."

May my life be a pure and holy
example of the truth of Your gospel message that
many will be led to walk in Your Way.
"And a highway will be there;
it will be called the Way of Holiness.
The unclean will not journey on it;
it will be for those who walk in that Way."
(Isaiah 35:8)

REVOLUTIONIZE THE WORLD!

Afternoon Devotion: Filled with His Power - Read Ephesians 4:1-16

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.  If we believe this then we must live like it.  The Christian walk is a journeyJesus leads us in the way to the heavenly Father, and He does so in truth, without deception or error, into the fullness of His life on earth, and eternal life in heaven.  If we walk in His way, we must also live in His way; and His way is the path of peace and reconciliation:  "...I beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace" (vv. 1-3).
 
The Lord's purpose is to make us one with Himself, as He is one with the Father, so that we,  His church, will become one with each other.  "There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all" (vv. 4-6).  The body of Christ is depicted much like the human body; it is made up of many parts, and all those parts are necessary for the body to function properly.  We are to walk in love, sharing the same heart of Christ; and in unity and in peace, for we are one body, and all the parts of the body are necessary to be a whole and healthy.  Our strength and effectiveness rests in our unity and our love.  When the body is at peace and not warring against itself, all energy and strength can be directed to work rather than wellness.   We are unified by love and built on the foundation of biblical truth; and we are called to unite both as we minister in the name of Jesus Christ.  "but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head - Christ - from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love" (vv. 15-16). We are to "bear with one another in love," but if we neglect the truth we paralyze the body.  May we make every effort to build up the Body of Christ by encouraging each other to grow up spiritually in the knowledge the truth and in deepening love for Christ and one another.  May we be willing to help those who are weak, and seek to encourage and exhort one another, in love and truth, so the body can grow up into the fullness of Christ (reference Ephesians 4:13).
 
"And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
may have power, together with all the saints,
to grasp how wide and long and high and deep
is the love of Christ,
and to know this love that surpasses knowledge -
that you may be filled to the measure
of all the fullness of Christ."
(Ephesians 3:18-19)

RESTORE PRAISE!
 
"Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever, Amen!" (Revelation 7:12)
 
Evening Devotion: Focused on His Praise - Read Psalm 56
  
As believers we have gained entrance into the presence of God through the shed blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.  The veil to the Most Holy Place has been torn down and we now have unlimited access to the throne of grace.  We have in our hands the golden key of prayer, and we should be using it daily to find the assurance, confidence and trust that we need to walk in the will and way of the Lord, and to access the grace and blessings of God for the people all around us.  How blessed we are that we have put our trust in the living, loving God who works powerfully on our behalf. 

Our nation's motto is "In God We Trust".  These four words are inscribed on our money, and provides a visible reminder to everyone that money and wealth will not change the world or transform our lives, only our faith in God will (reference Luke 16:13).  The power that is available to us through the resurrection cannot be bought with money; it is freely available to those who believe and have faith in Christ alone. Every time we lay down a dollar or a coin we should be reminded to lay all our hope and trust in God, for He alone is our greatest treasure; and the only investment that will reap eternal rewards.   This evening let us  lift our hearts in one accord in an anthem of praise to the One whom belongs all wisdom, honor, glory, and power.  Let us also continue to pray fervently for our nation, as we, the church, recognize how far we have fallen from the spiritual foundation we were built upon, and acknowledge how urgent the hour is that we need to repent of our waywardness and return to the Lord with whole-hearted devotion, so that we can receive the healing our land so desperately needs (reference 2 Chronicles 7:14).

What can flesh do to me?
You number my wanderings;
put my tears into Your bottle;
are they not in Your book?
When I cry out to You,
