"I HAVE BEEN CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST;

IT IS NO LONGER I WHO LIVE, BUT CHRIST LIVES IN ME;

AND THE LIFE WHICH I NOW LIVE IN THE FLESH

I LIVE BY FAITH IN THE SON OF GOD,

WHO LOVED ME AND GAVE HIMSELF FOR ME."

(Galatians 2:20)

RAISE UP THE STANDARD!

"To Him Who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious Presence without fault and with great joy - to the Only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen." (Jude 24)

Morning Devotion: Feasting in His Presence - Read John 20:19-23

The stone had been rolled away from the tomb where the crucified Christ had laid and He was no longer there, but the disciples were behind locked doors hiding away in fear.  It was Sunday evening, Jesus had already appeared to others that glorious day of His Resurrection, and now He would make a personal appearance to His disciples to calm their fears and increase their faith.  Surely His appearance in the room where the door had shut up tight and locked did little to calm their fears initially, but Jesus assured them He had come in peace.  "Peace be with you!" (v.19b).  Jesus not only came in peace, He also came to give them peace.  "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid" (John 14:27).  Jesus had given them these words of assurance previously when He spoke to them of the promised gift of the Holy Spirit, who would be sent to remind them of all that He had taught them. His presence in the room that day was absolute proof of His resurrection and complete assurance of His sovereign control over all things.  As Jesus opened His hands and heart to them all the fear and dread melted away and "they were glad."  "In His presence is fullness of joy!" (Psalm 16:11).

The disciples were revived that day in the presence of their resurrected and living Lord.  Jesus appeared to the disciples to confirm their faith and to prepare them for the work they were being sent out to do. "As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you" (v.21).  They were being sent out to carry on the work He began.  Theirs would be a spiritual work which would require spiritual power. "And with that He breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit" (John 20:22). The breath that was once breathed into the nostrils of the first man to give him life was now breathed into the disciples to give them divine power.  They were standing on the firm foundation of the undeniable resurrection of Christ and were now given the breath of the Spirit to enable to them to walk with courage and to carry His message.  "If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven" (v. 23).

The disciples had not been given authority to forgive sins, they were simply called to stand on the foundation of the authority of the message they had been commissioned to proclaim. "Who can forgive sins but God alone?" (Mark 2:7b).  The message of the cross is the sacred and holy message that every follower of Jesus Christ is called to carry, and we must do so with great reverence and respect for the One whose very life was given up so we could carry His message of life to the world.  "This is what is written:  The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  You are witnesses to these things" (Luke 24:46-48).  May we take seriously our commission as disciples of Jesus Christ to carry His message of hope to a lost and dying world. Praise God that He has unlocked the door to our heart so we could receive salvation and forgiveness of sin; we no longer have to hide in fear.  Let us offer a prayer of gratitude for the peace He has brought to our lives through the presence and power of His Holy Spirit, who is the spiritual breath we breathe in our extraordinary new life in Christ!  "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Peter 1:3-5).

Heavenly Father,
I rejoice in Your presence.
Thank You that You are always near,
and that You hear me when I call.
I praise You that I do not have to be anxious
about anything, but by prayer and petition,
and with thanksgiving, I can present my requests to You;
and receive Your promise that the peace of God,
which transcends all understanding will guard my heart
and my mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:4-7).
Thank You for the indwelling presence of Your Holy Spirit
which You gave at the moment of salvation,
to
comfort, counsel, guide and protect me
as He reminds me of the promises in Your Word
and leads me into all truth.
Help me to walk in Your peace.
Forgive me for any time I have been
a trouble maker
rather than a peacemaker.
I want my life to bring glory to Your name,
and bring Your peace to the world.
May Your presence, power, and peace be
evidenced in my life each day
as I share Your message of life and love
with the world.
"You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power."
(Revelation 4:11a)
May my life bring You honor and glory today.
In Jesus' mighty name, I pray. Amen.

REVOLUTIONIZE THE WORLD!

"Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty." (Zechariah 4:6)

Afternoon Devotion: Filled with His Power - Read 1 Corinthians 15:35-49

Yesterday, we stood at the empty tomb with Mary and reflected on the glorious news that our Lord Jesus is indeed resurrected and alive!  Today, we stand before a closed door that proves no obstacle to our Lord as He confirms to His disciples that He is not only alive, but has risen from the grave to give us a new and living life in Him!   "For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive" (1 Corinthians 15:22). When Jesus walked through that locked doorway He walked through with a physical body.  He was not some apparition; He had flesh and bone that the disciples could touch, and He showed them the scars and wounds which He wore as further proof of His resurrection. He was no longer bound to the mortal body, but became a spiritual and glorified body. "So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: 'Death is swallowed up in victory" (v. 54).

Jesus is the resurrection and the life.  We were born with a natural, sinful body, but through Christ we receive a spiritual, righteous body.   "And so it is written, 'The first man Adam became a living being," the last Adam became a life-giving spirit" (v.45).  Jesus became alive in the Spirit to give us life through the Spirit.  The Holy Spirit of God is His life giving power that purifies His people so they can be prepared vessels who are equipped and enabled us to carry out the work of God in this world.  The Holy Spirit is the life of Christ given to us - His resurrected life!  "And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you" (Romans 8:11).  We have been set free from the shackles of sin and death, and we are no longer bound by these mortal bodies; we have been given spiritual life in Christ so we can live and breathe His life into the world. "Now the Lord is Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom" (2 Corinthians 3:17).  One day at the resurrection our bodies will be raised to life and we will be made perfect and complete in Christ and resemble our Savior.  As we await that glorious day, let us commit to walking in the fullness of the spiritual life we have been given in Christ Jesus, and nourish that life within with the rich food of His Word, and live in a manner that is holy and honoring to our Lord Jesus Christ, who Himself is absolute moral perfection.

"The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;
it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory;
it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body."
(1 Corinthians 15:42b-44)

RESTORE PRAISE!

"Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever, Amen!" (Revelation 7:12)

Evening Devotion: Focused on His Praise - Read Psalm 130

Without the resurrection the message of the gospel is "useless and so is your faith" (1 Corinthians 15:14).  Praise God that our Lord is risen from the dead!  Jesus is the resurrection and the life!  He is alive and so is His glorious message.  As we meditate on Psalm 130 this evening may we lift up our hearts in praise to our merciful and gracious God who has provided for our every need - particularly our need of Him!  How blessed we are that we can call on Him in our time of need and know that He is always waiting to help us and forgive our sins.  May we not forget the immensity of His grace towards us as sinners as we offer up a prayer of praise for our Lord's great sacrifice and the life we have received through Him. It's been said that only a forgiven man is a holy man.  Let us take time tonight to repent of those areas of our life that are not honoring to our Lord and Father, and praise Him for His forgiveness which takes our sins and casts them into the depths of the sea (reference Micah 7:19).

"Out of the depths, I cry to You, O LORD;
O Lord, hear my voice.
Let Your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
If You, O LORD, kept a record of sins,
O Lord, who could stand?
But with You there is forgiveness;
therefore You are feared.
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in His word I put my hope.
My soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
O Israel, put your hope in the LORD,
for with the LORD is unfailing love
and with Him is full redemption.
He Himself will redeem Israel from all their sins."
(Psalm 130)
