"I HAVE BEEN CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST;

IT IS NO LONGER I WHO LIVE, BUT CHRIST LIVES IN ME;

AND THE LIFE WHICH I NOW LIVE IN THE FLESH

I LIVE BY FAITH IN THE SON OF GOD,

WHO LOVED ME AND GAVE HIMSELF FOR ME."

(Galatians 2:20)

RAISE UP THE STANDARD!

"To Him Who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious Presence without fault and with great joy - to the Only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen." (Jude 24)

Morning Devotion: Feasting in His Presence - Read John 10:1, 10

Jesus opened the doorway for His sheep to enter into a life of sweet fellowship with Him.  He is the only gate that leads to an abundant, fruitful and eternal life; free from the bondage of sin and its deadly consequences.  In Him we have freedom; freedom to experience all the joys and spiritual blessings of His kingdom, if we will learn to abide in Him.  When we trusted Christ as our Savior our shackles to this world were removed, and now we are bound to Christ.  From the moment we walked through the door of faith and entered into fellowship with God, we made ourselves enemies with the world.  "...don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God?  Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God" (James 4:4).  We have found a rare and priceless treasure in the friendship of God, but there is a thief who will stop at nothing to steal this sweet fellowship from us.  "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy..." (John 10:10a).  As we walk the path of faith in this world we will be confronted by ruthless enemies of God who want to rob those who follow Christ of the power and peace we have found in Him.  Behind them is the prince of the world, Satan, working relentlessly to steal from God the very thing He desires most from His sheep - a deep abiding union and fellowship with them.  All of the devil's efforts are aimed at destroying our connection to God, because he wants to hurt the heart of God.  The devil wants to rob us of our faith, kill our relationship with the Lord, and destroy any chance for the future generations to experience salvation through Jesus Christ.

Satan is a murderer, a liar, and a deceiver who sneaks around like a serpent, and prowls around like a lion (reference 1 Peter 5:8).  His goal is to devour believers and destroy the work of God; and many of God's children are not aware that they are actually contributing to his work when we allow ourselves to be used as vessels of evil and conflict rather than as vessels of mercy and grace.  Our battle is not against people, our battle is against the devil. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the power of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 6:12).   We are in a spiritual battle and cannot rely on human weapons in the fight.  God has given us everything we need to stand against the enemy.  "For thought we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.  On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).  Every time we waste a breath on human arguments that bring division and discord in the church, we join forces with the enemy and allow him to use us to disrupt the work of God's kingdom.  Every time we allow ourselves to be lured away by the enticements of the world, willingly indulging in carnal pleasures that feed only our flesh, we have fallen for the same line that Eve did in the garden and have rejected the abundant pastures of the Lord. In doing so, we offend God with our sin, and we weaken our effectiveness for the kingdom by hindering our ability to pray and blocking God's ability to hear our prayers.  The hours we spend striving for worldly wealth, prosperity and prestige to build our own kingdom rob us of precious time that could be better spent on building God's Kingdom.  And the moments we miss nurturing our relationship with God because we place other things or people at a higher priority, we fall for one of the devil's greatest weapons of mass destruction - distraction.  The enemy wants the children of God to be weak and ineffective; if he can keep us away from our Source of strength and power he can get the fight out of us.  Let's remember who's side we are on, and more importantly, Who is on our side! "What then shall we say to these things?  If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31).

Every time we step out into the world we are walking on a spiritual battleground; therefore it is vital that we take the time each day (before we even get out of bed) to put on our "spiritual" armor, "with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left" (2 Corinthians 6:7b); so we will be adequately prepared and equipped to face whatever (or whoever) with courage, wisdom, truth, love, and grace. "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand" (v.13). We must remind ourselves that the Lord has given us the greatest weapon of warfare against the enemy - our faith!  Jesus Christ went to the cross and by His death and resurrection overcame our enemies: the world, Satan, sin, and death! Through Christ we already have the victory! "But thanks be to God! He has given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:57).   Let us take time in our prayer closet this morning to make sure we are adequately dressed before we face the world.  As children of the King of kings we have been given a royal garment to wear - the garment of Jesus Christ, therefore let us "clothe [our]selves with the Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 13:14) remembering, with each article of the spiritual armor we put on and take up, that He is our "truth", our "righteousness", our "peace", our "faith", our "salvation" and our "sword" (Ephesians 6:14-17).  "He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness" (Isaiah 61:10a).  Take time today, while you bathe in the Light of Christ, to feed your faith (as Spurgeon has said, "it will starve your doubt to death").  Here are a few tasty morsels to chew on and fill up your spiritual arsenal today:

"In this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world"
(John 16:33)

"...the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."
(1 John 4:4b)

"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors though Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
(Romans 8:37-39)

"Don't be afraid...those who are with us are more than those who are with them."  (2 Kings 6:16)

"Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or discouraged...
for there is a greater power with us than with him.
With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God
to help us and to fight our battles."
(2 Chronicles 32:7-8a)

"For I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live,
but Christ lives in me.  The life I live in the body,
I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me
and gave Himself for me."
(Galatians 2:20).

Heavenly Father,
"I will proclaim the name of the LORD.
Oh, praise the greatness of our God!
He is the Rock, His works are perfect,
and all His ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
upright and just is He."
(Deuteronomy 32:3-4)
"The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation.
He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior.
I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise
and I am saved from my enemies."
(2 Samuel 22:2-3)
"Hear my prayer, O LORD God Almighty;
listen to me, O God of Jacob.
Look upon our shield, O God;
look with favor on Your anointed one."
(Psalm 84:8-9)
"My soul finds rest in God alone;
my salvation comes from Him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will never be shaken."
(Psalm 62:1-2)
In Jesus' Name. Amen.

REVOLUTIONIZE THE WORLD!

"Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty." (Zechariah 4:6)

Afternoon Devotion: Filled with His Power - Read Matthew 16:13-19

The enemy of God wants to rob us of our faith.  Everything else that Satan tries to steal from our life - our marriage, our children, our security, our future - is just icing on the cake.  The devil wants to rob from God all of the devotion that the Lord desires from His children and stop the work of God's kingdom from progressing.  Jesus even questioned that when He returns, "will He find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8b).  The declining spiritual and moral condition of our nation speaks to the need for perseverance on behalf of the saints of God. "This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. "Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God"  (1 John 5:4, 5).

When Jesus questioned His disciples about their faith, He asked them: "But what about you?  Who do you say that I am?" (Matthew 16:15).  Peter's bold declaration that day would provide the foundation on which God would build His church:  "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" (v.16).  This is the question the Lord proposes to us today, "Who do you say that I am?"  We, who have had the benefit of the abiding life and the privilege of deepening intimacy and knowledge of God should be prepared, more than any other, to give the reason for the hope that we have (see 1 Peter 3:15). Our right confession of Christ is the basis of our Christianity:  "...if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved" (Romans 10:9-10).  Like the apostle Peter, our confession of Christ does not come from ourselves, it comes from the heavenly Father, who alone draws men to Himself (John:44). This grand confession opens the gate of salvation and leads us into the green pastures of the abundant life that the Lord has waiting for us.  "On Christ the solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand."  Our Lord has promised to preserve and protect His church, and although we will experience opposition in this world, God's church will remain (though it may be only a remnant), until Christ returns. "...and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it" (Matthew 16:18).

God placed the keys to the kingdom into the hands of Peter and the apostles, and to all who would come after them, and gave them the authority and power to open the Word of God and the door of salvation to the people.   "...whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven" (v.19b).  Peter and the disciples would open the door of faith to the Jews and the Gentiles, and with Christ as the Chief Architect and Builder, a new body would be formed out of those who would believe, with Christ as the Head (reference Ephesians 1:22-23).  "His purpose was to create in Himself one new man out of two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which He put to death their hostility" (Ephesians 2:15b, 16).  It is no wonder the forces of the spiritual realm are aligned in hostility against God's holy building program.  It is vital that we, the church, carry forth the great commission and continuing advancing God's kingdom in this world.  Cut from Jesus Christ our Rock, we have been honed as "living" stones (1 Peter 2:5), filled with His Holy Spirit, to offer our lives as a "living sacrifice" for His holy purpose (Romans 12:2). Let us stand firm on the rock solid foundation of our faith as a united body of believers and be bold in our confession of Christ in this world.  The extent to which the church is united on this earth declares to the heavenly realm His wisdom:  "His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to His eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Ephesians 3:10-11).  Let us pray this afternoon that we would be found faithful doorkeepers in the house of the Lord - may we hold the Word of God open so the Light of Christ will shine brightly in this world, and our confession of our Lord always be faithful and true!  Let us remember our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world today whose confession of the Lord today will cost them their lives.  How truly blessed and beloved of the Lord we are to know Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God!

"Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
my hope comes from Him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation;
He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God;
He is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in Him at all times, O people;
pour out your hearts to Him,
for God is our refuge."
(Psalm 62:5-8)

RESTORE PRAISE!

"Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever, Amen!" (Revelation 7:12)

Evening Devotion: Focused on His Praise - Read Psalm 84

Beloved saint, as we come to a time of worship and praise this evening may our heart and flesh cry out for the living God, as the psalmists' did: "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God?" (Psalm 42:1-2).  This should be the battle cry of every believer.  We need spiritual appetites such as this - hearts that "hunger and thirst" for deeper fellowship with the Lord.  Much of the church is spiritually malnourished, and therefore too weak and ill-equipped to face the battles of evil that are waging all around us.  We need to whet our appetites with the Word of God and fix our eyes on the author and perfecter of our faith, Christ Jesus, and be willing to slay everything in our path that would dare disrupt or rob us of our intimate union and fellowship with our Lord.  Jesus, Himself, let nothing deter Him from maintaining His love relationship with the Father; and neither should we.

May we see every battle before us through spiritual eyes recognizing that the foe we are up against wants to harm and hurt the very heart of the great Love of our life.  May we rise up and defend our First Love with wholehearted devotion, clothed in our spiritual armor, which is, the Lord Jesus Christ!  We are pilgrims just passing through and we will soon be heading home. Our desire should be for things above and not for the things of this earth.  We have been given the keys to unlock the door of faith for others to experience sweet fellowship with Christ.  Everything we do and say should lead others to the doorway of the kingdom of heaven and not be a stumbling block that would hinder them from coming in. May we give ourselves wholly to Christ so we can become a holy vessel for Christ.  May our days, and nights, be filled with worship of Him!

"How lovely is Your tabernacle,
O LORD of hosts!
My soul longs, yes, even faints
for the courts of the LORD;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Blessed are those who dwell in Your house;
they will still be praising You.
Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
the LORD will give grace and glory;
no good thing will He withhold
from those who walk uprightly.
O LORD of hosts,
blessed is the man who trusts in You!"
(Psalm 84:1-2,  4-5, 7, 10-12)
