Holy Land

Morning Meditation: "After Jesus said this, He looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify Your son, that Your Son may glorify You. For You granted Him authority over all people that He might give eternal life to all those You have given Him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent. I have brought You glory on earth by completing the work You gave Me to do. And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world began." - John 17:1-5

 

 

As we come to the final few days of our journey in preparation for our time of intercession, it has been the Lord's desire that we take on His heart. He has written on our hearts His covenant of love, and desires that our lives would be a living love letter for the whole world to read; a breath of fresh, purified air that would revive the weary and dead souls, and draw them into the presence of their Creator. We are living in an immoral and corrupt land surrounded by many who live under the heavy weight of a spiritual and moral fog, and who are gasping for fresh air even as they voice opposition to all that we believe. All around us is a very real enemy who lurks in the darkness who seeks to rob, kill and destroy us (John 10:10a). But we are protected and have been given a radiant light to help us see through the fog to find our way home. We are citizens of a holy land - a kingdom not of this world that has been entrusted to our care. "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body" (Philippians 3:20-21). This world is not our home, but we have been left here as ambassadors of the King of kings who has commissioned us to do His royal work. May we be able to say to our Father, as our Savior has, "I have brought You glory on earth by completing the work You gave me to do" (John 17:4).

 

The heart of God is the Holy of Holies, and He has invited us into that sacred place through the sacrifice of His Son who shed His own precious blood so we could enter in and have holy fellowship with Him. There is no greater privilege then to lay our head on the chest of our Beloved Lord and hear the prayer of His heart as He speaks to the Father on our behalf. Jesus' spoke fluently the language of prayer while He lived on this earth. The disciples observed His dependence upon the Father every hour of the day; but it wasn't just in the words He said, it was with His very life that He made intercession for us, and He asks the same of us. When we intercede for others we are to do more than speak to God on their behalf, we are to speak the way that Jesus spoke to the Father - in humble submission as He laid down His life on the cross for all mankind. The purpose for everything that Jesus did was to bring glory to the Father, and the greatest glory came through His suffering and death. "Now is the Son of Man glorified and God is glorified in Him" (John 13:31). Father, may You be glorified in everything we do and say, but even more so when we take time to pray so we can hear from You what You would have us to do to bring Your glory to this land. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

 

"The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies,

it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

The man who loves his life will lose it,

while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I am, My servant also will be.

My Father will honor the one who serves Me."

(John 12:23-26)

 

 
AFTERNOON DEVOTION

 

Afternoon Devotion: "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful." - Colossians 3:12-15

  

God is love; and everything that God does is love. Love is the law of God's kingdom.   It is the bond of perfection that ties all the other virtues together. Love is necessary for the body to have unity and harmony, but it is also important for growth. Growth happens when love is combined with truth. "Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work" (Ephesians 4:15-16). It is a sign of spiritual maturity when we can "speak the truth in love" to our brothers and sisters in Christ. If we truly love each other we will be willing to tell each other the truth. When the church isn't being fed and nourished with the Word of God then the people are easily swayed (and divided) by opinion rather than truth (v. 14). God has brought us together as one body so we can hold each other accountable and build one another up in love. We are to be helpful to one another so the body will experience fruitfulness and growth, and not be picked apart. "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ" (Colossians 2:8).

 

God gave us His Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth. "But when He, the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13a). It is vital that we not just come to the truth, but rather get into it; and draw fresh supplies from the Holy Spirit every day. The truth needs to take hold of us; if we don't let it we will easily be led astray. There is so much error mingled with the truth today that many have trouble distinguishing between them. That is why we need to depend fully on the Spirit to guide us, because He will never let us wander in the wrong direction. He will keep us on the right path that will lead us to accomplish God's will for our life. "He will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" (John 14:26b). It is vital that we feed on the Word of God so we can nourish the spiritual life that has been deposited within us; and so we can be equipped with truth to edify and encourage the rest of the Body. The most useful people in the world are those who hold the truth - and not just hold it in our hands, but have it settled deep within our hearts, so that out of the overflow of the heart will come a fountain of life and love that will bring comfort and healing to a very sick world. Holy Spirit, lead us and guide us into all truth so that we will speak with authority and love, and be equipped with the answers that the world so desperately needs. Help us lead such holy lives that we impact this land with Your love and truth. May we do all for the love of God as He has done for us. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

 

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,

but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,

and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,

but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast,

it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,

it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease;

where there are tongues, they will be stilled;

where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part,

but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child,

I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.

Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.

But the greatest of these is love."

EVENING PRAYER
 
Evening Prayer of Thanksgiving:  "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." - Colossians 3:16-17

 

"For this reason I kneel before the Father,

from whom His whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name.

I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power

through His Spirit in your inner being,

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,

may have power together with all the saints,

to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

and to know this love that surpasses knowledge -

that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,

according to His power that is at work within us,

to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations,

for ever and ever! Amen."

(Ephesians 3:14-21)
