Day Thirty-One Devotions:
MORNING MEDITATION
AFTERNOON DEVOTION
EVENING PRAYER
MORNING MEDITATION

Morning Meditation: "As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit - just as you were called to one hope when you were called - one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over and through all and in all."- Ephesians 4:1-6

As Christians, we have been united with Christ into one body by the Spirit of God. God has made us one in Christ and with each other; and we should strive to keep the unity of the Spirit as we put our hope in the same Savior, and look forward together to His return and our home together with Him in heaven. "And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession - to the praise of His glory" (Ephesians 1:13-14). Our marriage covenant has been sealed by the Holy Spirit. He is our guarantee, and He has promised to fulfill all the provisions that are written within by making us holy, so we will be prepared to receive our Bridegroom when He returns to take us to our glorious home with Him in heaven. He has given us His promises and bestowed upon us such great spiritual privileges that we should become to Him the praise of His glory.

God has called us according to His own gracious purpose to make us one with Him; not because we were holy, but that through His Holy Spirit we would be made holy like Him. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, that they might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified" (Romans 8:28-30). The Spirit first drew us to the heart of Christ when His call fell upon our ears, but now that He has been deposited within, He calls upon our heart; so that we, who have come to the truth, will now let His truth penetrate deep within our hearts and transform us into the holy image of God. The unity of Christ's Body, the Church, begins with the heart; and if we belong to the Body of Christ, we will only be able to keep the unity if we willingly and passionately take on His heart. May we live a life worthy of the calling we have received, and be united in heart and purpose as the Body of Christ, bearing with one another in His amazing love, as we look forward together to our glorious future in heaven with our beloved Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit help us to live our lives with gratitude, as ones who have been given the greatest hope, so that others will want to know where our hope comes from and desire that same hope. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks

you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

But do this with gentleness and respect."

(1 Peter 3:15)

AFTERNOON DEVOTION

Afternoon Devotion: "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful." - Colossians 3:12-15

Our Savior humbled Himself and became a servant so that we would learn to do the same; because the first step toward unity in the Body is humility. Just as Christ humbled Himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross (Philippians 2:8), so that we could be one with Him; He gave us His Spirit to humble us so we would put to death the spirit of pride that causes division where He has paid the price to bring unity. "If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other" (Galatians 5:15). Pride is the great destroyer of Christian love, where humility and meekness are the restorers of peace. "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer" (Romans 12:9-12).

There are some, who with impure motives, wreak havoc against the unity and harmony in the Church, but it is God's desire that we, who realize we are united into one Body with Christ and in His Spirit, be peacemakers instead; being mindful that the wisdom of God is first of all pure, than peaceable. "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that come from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere" (James 3:13-17). Holy Spirit, give us more of God's heart for others so we will see them through His eyes, and always think of others better than ourselves. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit,

but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Each of you should look not only to your own interests,

but also to the interests of others."

(Philippians 2:3-4)

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer of Thanksgiving:  "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." - Colossians 3:16-17

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the example You

have given us in Your Son;

who came, not only as Your servant, obedient to Your will,

but also came as a servant to mankind;

suffering the greatest humiliation

on the cross, where He died for our sins.

May we live our lives, not as arrogant,

spoiled, entitled children who

are always demanding more of You,

but rather may we humbly ask Your Holy Spirit to help us

"submit to one another out of reverence for Christ."

Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have called us to be free,

help us not to use our freedom to indulge the sinful nature;

instead, to "serve one another in love."

Teach us to walk daily in the same Spirit, with our Lord

and Savior Jesus Christ, as we look forward to

the hope and promise of His return.

In Jesus' Name. Amen.

(Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 5:21; Philippians 2:8)
