Day Twenty-Five Devotions:
MORNING MEDITATION
AFTERNOON DEVOTION
EVENING PRAYER
MORNING MEDITATION

Morning Meditation:"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. In His days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which He will be called: The LORD our Righteousness." - Jeremiah 23:5-6

There were many kings in Israel's history who did evil in the sight of the Lord, and many priests who did not faithfully shepherd the people; instead of blessing the people, they exploited them. The Lord promised the day would come when He would send the ideal Ruler. He would provide the perfect King, who would rule with justice and righteousness. Jesus Christ would fulfill this prophecy, and would serve and reign, for the first time in Israel's history, as both Priest and King (Hebrews 8:1-2). "Here is the man whose name is Branch, and He will branch out from His place and build the temple of the LORD" (Zechariah 6:12). Only in Christ is harmony achieved between religious and civil authorities. "It is He who will build the temple of the LORD, and He will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on His throne. And there will be harmony between the two" (v. 13).

The reign of Jesus Christ, as Priest and King, would mean a benevolent and generous hand who will bestow abundant blessings upon His people, and who will also be faithful to do what is just and right in the land.   "In that day the Branch of the LORD will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel" (Isaiah 4:2). The future reign of Christ will mean restoration for His people, and the land that was desolate, will once again become fruitful and beautiful. Our covenant of love is also a covenant of peace, which has been signed in the name of our Lord, the Righteous Branch. In it He has written a guarantee of our safety, security, and the blessings of prosperity. Lord, may You find us faithful stewards of Your covenant of peace, humbly showing your mercy, justice, and love to the people in our lives. Entrust us with the abundant riches of Your kingdom, and let Your bountiful blessings flow upon this land. "I am confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord" (Psalm 27:13-14).

"The LORD is my shepherd,

I shall not be in want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,

He leads me beside quiet waters,

He restores my soul.

He guides me in paths of righteousness

for His name's sake."

(Psalm 23:1-3)

AFTERNOON DEVOTION

Afternoon Devotion:"They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor." - Isaiah 61:3b

When our Lord was crucified upon the tree, His body was like a branch that had been torn to shreds and stripped of every leaf in a violent storm. "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; I will break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain" (Ezekiel 17:22). Jesus weathered the worst storm in history so that we would one day have the opportunity to sit under the shade of His tree and receive the blessings of His shelter and protection. He battled our greatest foes, and His righteous name has become for us a shelter from the storms of life. "He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and He guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the LORD for His unfailing love" (Psalm 107:29-31).

In Christ we have been transformed from a barren and wilting tree into a fruitful garden of the Lord. He has clothed us with garments of salvation and righteousness so that we can become like Him; not dressed up on the outside, but transformed where it matters, deep within the heart. He has given us the righteousness of His holy name so that we can display His humility, purity, holiness, faithfulness and love in all the relationships we have. Only when we come by faith to the Branch will righteousness be found. "There is no one righteous, not even one" (Romans 3:10). We can look forward to the day when our family tree will fully flourish; when there will be no more "cutting off," but all will be "grafted in" (Romans 11:17-24). "And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again" (v.23). Lord, give us grace to walk the righteous path that leads us daily to Your throne. Keep us in a right relationship with You, so we can also be in a right relationship with others; so they will be drawn to You as well. "He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers" (Psalm 1:3).

"I delight greatly in the LORD;

my soul rejoices in my God.

For He has clothed me with garments of salvation

and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness,

as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,

and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

For as the soil makes the sprout come up

and a garden causes seed to grow

so the Sovereign LORD will make

righteousness and praise spring up

before all nations."

(Isaiah 61:10-11)

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer of Repentance:  "Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." - Philippians 2:9-11

Holy Father,

"Praise the LORD, O my soul,

all my inmost being,

praise His holy Name."

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst

for righteousness, for they will be filled."

May this time of prayer and fasting develop

within us an insatiable appetite for Your righteousness.

We humbly thank you for our daily bread,

which You so faithfully provide through Your Word

and which keeps us so firmly rooted in You.

"...the righteous cannot be uprooted...

the house of the righteous stands firm...

the root of the righteous flourishes."

Forgive us for the times we have

neglected coming to Your abundant banqueting table,

because we filled up on some other unsatisfying

and unhealthy substitute from the world.

Teach us to eat every morsel that You place on our plate;

and may the grumbling in our own bellies remind us

of the world around us that is starving to death without You.

May we bring them the Bread of Life

they so desperately need.

May we bear the "fruit of the righteous"

so we can become "a tree of life,"

that "wins people over to Your wisdom and righteousness."

In the mighty and majestic Name, of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

(Psalm 103:1; Proverbs 11:30; 12:3a, 7b, 12b; Matthew 5:6)
