MORNING MEDITATION

Morning Meditation:"God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God." - 2 Corinthians 5:21

Day after day, and year after year, the priests would perform their duties before the Lord in the Tabernacle. Once a year the high court of heaven would convene in the Most Holy Place, and the high priest, as mediator and appointed lawyer of the accused, would enter in to court to plead their case before the Judge (Leviticus 16). Sin had entered through the door by the disobedience of one man, therefore God required from His people obedience every time the high priest entered through that sacred door into His presence. Over and over this process was repeated until our Great High Priest appeared and entered through that door one last and final time. He appeared before the Judge in all His sinless perfection and purity, and offered up His own life to pay the high penalty of our sin. The shackles have been removed and the prison door is opened wide, but it requires faith to believe we've been freed from the sentence of death and to walk through that open door into a new life. "For just as through the disobedience of one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one many the many will be made righteous" (Romans 5:19).

The demands of God's holy law were fully met through Jesus Christ's death on the cross. And now that we've been reconciled to God we have the divine privilege of sharing in His ministry of reconciliation throughout the world. Just as Christ was sent as Peacemaker in the war that man declared on God (Romans 1:18-32; Ephesians 2:14-18); we, who have believed on Him, have now been given His message of peace to bring to all men. "And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation" (2 Corinthians 5:19b). Every day we have a choice to make if we are going to follow Christ in the path of obedience: Choosing to offer ourselves to God as an instrument of righteousness, instead of giving our life over to sin (Romans 6:13). We've been freed from the law, and not just from the penalty of death, but we've also been set free to we can live a new life - a new live in Him. "We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may life a new life" (Romans 6:4). May we always look to Christ's perfection as our example as we seek to live a life of obedience in Him (there is no righteousness in us apart from Him). Let us also repent for those times of disobedience where we have shut the door of the kingdom of God in men's faces, rather than faithfully holding it open so they could enter in by faith, just as we once also had. "I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2b).

"All this is from God,

who reconciled us to Himself through Christ

and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:

that God was reconciling the world to Himself

in Christ, not counting men's sins against them.

And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors,

as though God were making His appeal through us.

We implore you on Christ's behalf:

Be reconciled to God."

(2 Corinthians 5:18-20)

AFTERNOON DEVOTION

Afternoon Devotion: "For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation." - Romans 5:10-11

The covenant of love that has been written on our hearts and signed in our Savior's blood is a "living will" because Christ is alive and living in us. His work is perfected because He is alive. Because He reconciled us to the Father through His death on the cross, we have the privilege of participating in His unending life and ministry, and also experiencing intimate fellowship with Holy God. God's holy purpose from the beginning has always been to make us one with Him. He did this by removing the dividing wall of hostility between man and God through the death of His Son (Man is the enemy of God; God is not the enemy of man - He sent His Son as Peacemaker when we declared war on Him - that alone should express how great His love is toward man); and then He established fellowship with us - declaring us as no longer enemies, but calling us His friends. It seems fitting, therefore, that the law of His kingdom would require us to also love our enemies. "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous...Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" (Matthew 5:44-45, 48).

His covenant of love is also a covenant of life and peace. God reconciled us to Him so we would also reconcile the world to Him. He created us to be one with Him, but also to be one with each other. Let us pray for unity in the Church, the united body of believers, which includes believing Jews and Gentiles into one body through Christ (Ephesians 2:11-16); and let us repent of any hostility that we may hold against each other or any man. Let us also pray for the peace of Jerusalem, for it is there His ultimate purpose will be fulfilled."Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: 'May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels" (Psalm 122:6-7).

"But I tell you who hear Me:

Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

bless those who curse you,

pray for those who mistreat you."

(Luke 6:27-28)

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer of Repentance:  "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking on the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!" - Philippians 2:5-8

Holy Father,

We praise You for Your Superior Covenant

that You have written on our hearts.

The covenant of the blood of Jesus Christ

by which we have been justified through faith;

that has abolished our sins forever and reconciled us to Holy God,

and has opened up the door of Your presence so we can

experience intimate fellowship with You.

"Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven,

whose sins are covered.

Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD

does not count against him and in whose

Spirit is no deceit"

Forgive us for letting sin poison our

path and keep us so far from You.

Your beauty and Your fellowship is all that we seek,

Your love is all that we desire.

Empty our lives of everything that is taking up

precious real estate that belongs to only You -

we've been bought with a price,

and we owe our entire lives to You.

Expand the recesses of our hearts

so there will be only more room for You;

we know no greater love than Yours -

Your love is all we need.

In the power of the blood

of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

(Psalm 32:1-2)
