Day 20

Day Twenty Devotions:
MORNING MEDITATION
AFTERNOON DEVOTION
EVENING PRAYER
MORNING MEDITATION

Morning Meditation: "God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice, because in His forbearance He had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished - He did it to demonstrate His justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus." - Romans 3:25-26

Holy God didn't just sign His covenant of love with the indelible ink of a pen - He signed it with the atoning blood and sacrificial life of His One and Only Son. "The life of the creature is in the blood" (Leviticus 17:11). With one substitutionary act of divine love the perfect, righteous, life-giving blood of Jesus Christ was made readily and freely available to all humanity who are condemned to die, if we will only believe. Although He was the one offended by our sin, God, in His amazing love and grace, sought us out and extended His offer of love to us while we were still sinners. His superior covenant of love began with a proposal of marriage - an offer of faithful and eternal love extended to one who was not the least bit deserving. "...I will show my love to the one I called, 'Not my loved one.' I will say to those called, 'Not my people,' 'You are my people'; and they will say, 'You are my God'" (Hosea 2:23). He did this so this new covenant of His blood would be written on the tablet of our hearts with the Spirit of the Living God - to be read by everyone (2 Corinthians 3:2-3).

God extended His hand of marriage to us, and we accepted His offer of love by faith. How grateful we should be for His patience with us, that when we weren't even looking, He is the one who sought us out and gave us time to repent (2 Peter 3:9).
"Bear in mind that our Lord's patience, means salvation..." (v.15a). Let us praise Him for wedding our hearts to His, and making us holy by His blood; and may we repent of not taking better care of His Body, the Church, through which His priceless and powerful blood is meant to freely flow, to bring life and fruitfulness to all who enter in to find communion with Him.

"After the suffering of His soul,

He will see the light of life and be satisfied;

by His knowledge My righteous servant will justify many,

and He will bear their iniquities.

Therefore I will give Him a portion among the great,

and He will divide the spoils with the strong,

because He poured out His life unto death,

and was numbered with the transgressors.

For He bore the sin of many,

and made intercession for the transgressors."

(Isaiah 53:11-12)

AFTERNOON DEVOTION

Afternoon Devotion: "Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through Him!" - Romans 5:9

Because of our sin we are all under the sentence of death; but at just the right time, when we were condemned to die, our Substitute stepped in. Not because we were worthy, or because of anything we had done, but for only one reason, that is, "Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne" (Psalm 89:14). Holy God reigns in equity, so when iniquity (man's willful in-equity) tried to usurp His righteous throne, His justice and righteousness were equally displayed in the atoning sacrifice of His Son. With a simple act of faith in Christ we are completely absolved from sin, released from its penalty, and declared righteous in Him. "...He did it to demonstrate His justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus" (Romans 3:26).

There is power in the blood of Christ that courses through our veins by faith. His blood alone has saved our life, reversed our eternal sentence, and restored us to a right relationship to the One we have offended. "...and are justified freely by His grace, through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ" (Romans 3:24).   The blessings of justification have come to us through the completed, finished, all-sufficient, atoning and redeeming work of Jesus Christ on the cross. "He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification" (Romans 4:25).   Praise God who has justified us by no merit of our own, but has presented us an offer of His grace - a free gift that we receive by faith (Philippians 3:9). May we, like Paul, consider all things loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus as our Lord, "that [we] may gain Christ, and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of [our] own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ..." (Philippians 3:8-9).

"If we confess our sins,

He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,

and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

(1 John 1:9)

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer of Repentance:  "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking on the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!" - Philippians 2:5-8

Holy Father,

"Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,

Your faithfulness to the skies.

Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,

Your justice like the great deep."

We praise You for the atoning blood of

Jesus Christ, Your Son, who has freed us from the

guilt and consequence of sin;

and has paid the debt we could never repay

to restore us to right relationship with You again.

"He was pierced for our transgressions,

He was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him,

and by His wounds we are healed.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,

each of us has turned his own way;

and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all."

Forgive us for the pain and hurt we

cause anyone when we sin,

knowing that it is ultimately against

You, and You alone, that we have sinned.

May we commit to live our lives in a righteous and holy way,

so we will never cause the One who purchased our

love with His blood any anguish, grief,

or suffering ever again.

May He find us a faithful, committed Bride,

prepared and ready for His return.

Forgive us for living any other way.

In the priceless, precious, atoning blood

of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

(Psalm 36:5-6; 51:6; Isaiah 53:5-6)
