EVENING PRAYER
MORNING MEDITATION

Morning Meditation: "This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." - 1 John 4:9-10

The Father had finished preparing a beautiful home for His creatures to dwell in, but the one He had crowned with "glory and honor" had no one to share his life with; there was no one among the other creatures "suitable" for him, no one "according to his kind." It was not good for His child to be alone so He made a compatible helper for him. From out of the man's own body, his helpmate would come, one who would be flesh of his flesh and bone of his bones (Genesis 2:21-23). In this way he would love her and care for her as he does his own body - for this is what she truly is (Ephesians 5:28-29). When the man failed to protect the woman and guard her as his own life, the Father had to send His only Son to redeem His wounded wife. He gave up His body to be beaten, bruised, torn, and crucified; and when it came time to prove His sacrifice, they opened up His side. "Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: 'Not one of His bones will be broken,' and, as another scripture says, 'They will look on the one they have pierced" (John 19:34-37). His rib had not been broken - "A bruised reed He will not break" (Isaiah 42:3a) - and out of His side He poured out the water of eternal life. God poured out His love into our hearts in the most extraordinary and unprecedented way, by giving us the life-giving water of His Spirit who constantly refreshes us with His hope. "And hope does not disappoint us..." (Romans 5:5a).

We would never have known what love is if God had not first loved us; and there is no way we would have ever known to love Him, if His Spirit had not shown us the way. Because this love is divine - it is born from above and not born from our fleshly nature - it is vital that we nurture and nourish it with the only food that will satisfy - the heavenly manna of His Word. All the love we could ever give Him, or give to any other, is because it first came from that eternal spring of infinite love that flows from the Heavenly Father. Praise God for His love divine that He has poured into our hearts, and repent for anything that consumes our hearts than the sole possession of His love!

"We love Him because He first loved us."

(1 John 4:19)

AFTERNOON DEVOTION

Afternoon Devotion: "And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by His Holy Spirit, whom He has given us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:5-8

It is truly a great mystery that God would die for ones so unworthy and undeserving such as us. Not only helpless creatures bound to die, but guilty creatures deserving nothing less than the penalty of death. It was in this sad state that He found us: Sinners with no strength to save ourselves. It was only at that time, when we were most helpless, that we could experience His free gift of grace. "As it is written: 'There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one" (Romans 3:10-12). Love is the great motivator behind God's plan of salvation; an unequaled demonstration of love that has caused man to wonder and admire how holy God could allow His heart to be identified with man.

God loves us just the way we are, yes, this is true; but He also loves us way too much to leave us as we are. He has poured His love into our hearts by His Holy Spirit and He continues to dwell there so His love will be the guiding principle that governs all we do. God's love is made complete in us when we love our fellow man; and by loving others the way that Christ loved us we confirm our salvation. "...if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us" (1 John 4:10). May the Lord make our love increase and overflow for one other, and may we repent for times we haven't shown His love, because we haven't loved Him fully as we should - with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.

"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us,

not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.

He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

whom He poured out on us generously though Jesus Christ our Savior,

so that having been justified by His grace,

we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life."

(Titus 3:5-6)

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer of Repentance:  "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking on the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!" - Philippians 2:5-8

Holy Father,

"I love You, O LORD, my strength."

The love You have poured into our lives

through the sacrifice of Your Son,

is more than any soul can contain

and in itself is enough to last a lifetime;

but You continue to fill us with a

never-ending flow if we will only

stay connected to the Source.

For You keep Your covenant of love

with those who love You and obey Your commands.

Help us Holy Spirit to be "imitators

of God, as dearly loved children and live a life of love,

just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up

for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

If we love You first with all our heart than we

can better serve humanity.

Forgive us Father if we have been an obstacle

in anyone's path that prevented them in any way

from experiencing the great power of Your love.

And forgive us for not faithfully tending to the

garden of love You have planted in our hearts.

Help us today, and every day, to do something

worthy of Your love.

In the amazing and abounding love

of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

(Nehemiah 1:5; Psalm 18:1; Ephesians 5:1-2)
