Day Fourteen Devotions:
MORNING MEDITATION
AFTERNOON DEVOTION
EVENING PRAYER
MORNING MEDITATION

Morning Meditation: "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son,  whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven." - Hebrews 1:1-3

The right hand of God displays awesome deeds, provides eternal pleasures, serves as Sustainer and rises up as Protector (Psalm 16:11; 18:35; 45:4; 139:10). His right hand holds all things, creates all things, and works salvation for mankind. The compassionate, tender, loving hand of God overflows with infinite goodness, mercy and grace. His hand works tirelessly for the good of man and for His own glory, all the time. In the faithful and trustworthy hand of God man had everything he could ever want or desire, including the greatest gift of all - sweet communion and loving fellowship with the Heavenly Father. "Yet I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand" (Psalm 74:23).

The Creator opened up His benevolent hand and poured abundant blessings upon the land. He held nothing back from man except for one particular tree. God had set boundaries on all His creation - the waters were given a limit on how far they could reach the shore, the sun knew the time it was to rise and set each day, and the stars had their cue for appearing in the sky at night. This tree would be the boundary He placed on man for his protection: "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die" (Genesis 2:16-17). But, willful and impatient man wanted to know everything that God knew, so when he overstepped the bounds of God's protective hand there was only one thing for holy God to do.

Man wanted knowledge; well, God had the answer for that. He opened up His hand and poured out upon the world the greatest knowledge man would ever know. In an unexpected display of God's amazing love and grace, He gave man His greatest gift - His One and Only Son - to pay the penalty for sin. Whenever man desires God's greater knowledge today, the tree they will have to come to is the one Christ crucified their flesh on - a tree that is not forbidden, but is fully accessible! "...wisdom is proved right by her actions" (Matthew 11:19b) Praise God for His secret wisdom that He no longer hides from man; and praise Him for His sacrifice which has restored our fellowship with Him (1 Corinthians 2:7). Praise Him for His holy creative and redemptive work which are both now complete; and praise Him for His unfailing love and faithfulness that will never ever cease!

"The LORD says to my Lord:

"Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies

a footstool for Your feet."

The LORD will extend Your mighty scepter from Zion;

You will rule in the midst of Your enemies.

Your troops will be willing on Your day of battle.

Arrayed in holy majesty,

from the womb of the dawn

You will receive the dew of Your youth.

The LORD has sworn and will not change His mind:

"You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."

(Psalm 110:1-4)

AFTERNOON DEVOTION

Afternoon Devotion"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." - Hebrews 12:2

We have seen over the past week God display His holy image in His Son as Creator, Prophet, Priest, and now King. With His work of redemption now complete, God has exalted Him to the highest position of authority because He is God; and He is actively ruling with God as Lord over all (Mark 16:19). In the earthly tabernacle the priests stood up because their work was never complete, but our High Priest sat down because He completed His atoning work on the cross. "We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven, and who serves in the sanctuary, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man" (Hebrews 8:1-2). Up to this point everything Jesus has shown us about the image and nature of God has been representing God to us. With His redemptive work complete, and His ongoing work as High Priest in the sanctuary in heaven, Jesus is now representing us to God the Father. "Christ Jesus who died - more than that, who was raised to life - is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us" (Romans 8:34).

Jesus could only represent mankind before God by becoming one with us; and now He lives to make intercession for us. "...because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them" (Hebrews 7:24-25). Praise God that we are never without a priestly representative in heaven. Our God lives and reigns and is seated on the throne! Praise Him for His holy work of intercession on the cross, and for His continued work of intercession before the throne. May we follow His holy example.

"In love a throne will be established;

in faithfulness a man will sit on it -

one from the house of David -

one who in judging seeks justice

and speeds the cause of righteousness."

(Isaiah 16:5)

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer of Praise"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." - Hebrews 4:14-16

Our Marriage Covenant has been placed in the hands of the One who is the mediator of a better covenant. "Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant" (Hebrews 7:22). It is because of this new covenant that we are able to experience a more perfect union with Christ, our Bridegroom. The next part of our journey takes us into the holy place of deepening intimacy with Christ as we unroll the scroll to reveal the powerful benefits of this superior covenant. "But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which He is mediator is superior to the old one, and it founded on better promises" (Hebrews 8:6). Let us enter His holy courts with praise and prepare our hearts for a time of repentance as we step into the presence of holy God.

"Clap your hands, all you nations;

shout to God with cries of joy.

How awesome is the LORD Most High,

the great King over all the earth!

He subdued nations under us, peoples under our feet.

He chose our inheritance for us,

the pride of Jacob, whom He loved.

God has ascended amid shouts of joy,

the LORD amid the sounding of trumpets.

Sing praises to God, sing praises;

sing praises to our King, sing praises.

For God is the King of all the earth;

sing to Him a psalm of praise.

God reigns over the nations;

God is seated on His holy throne.

The nobles of the nations assemble

as the people of the God of Abraham,

for the kings of the earth belong to God;

He is greatly exalted."

(Psalm 47)
