Day 12
Day Twelve Devotions:
MORNING MEDITATION
AFTERNOON DEVOTION
EVENING PRAYER
MORNING MEDITATION

Morning Meditation: "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son,  whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word." - Hebrews 1:1-3a

Meditate this morning on the Creator's hands. The hands that drafted the blueprint of Creation and constructed every detail of the plan; the hands that carefully crafted every living thing and positioned each one thoughtfully; the hands that set the world in motion and gave every part its' special function; the hands that gave us springtimes' showers, summers' heat and winters' frost; the hands that buried gems and treasures in caves and underground, and placed food to feed a multitude within a single seed planted in the ground; the hands that existed before all things, and without whose hand nothing would exist; the hands that planned the world, produced it by His power, and purposed it for His pleasure - are none other than the hands of a faithful, loving, ever-present God who is holding everything together. "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together" (Colossians 1:17).

The Word that brought all things into existence and maintains its' every function, is actively involved in holding all things together and directing it towards the fulfillment of God's purpose: "To bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ" (Ephesians 1:10). The hands that gave us life also gave us a purpose for our lives, and that purpose is that we simply put our lives back into His hands. "A man's steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?" (Proverbs 20:24). Let us take a moment this morning, as we bow our heads to pray, and look into the hands in front of us and ask ourselves: Whose hands are we resting in today? The heavy burden of this question is one all mankind has to face. To make the choice of any other hands, than the hands of the One who gave us life, is a foolish decision, and a detriment to our very life. Praise our Creator this morning, Who is the sustaining and preserving Word, for making us alive in Him, complete in Him, and firmly rooting us in His hands.

"Listen to Me, O house of Jacob,

all you who remain in the house of Israel,

you whom I have upheld since you were conceived,

and have carried since your birth.

Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He,

I am He who will sustain you.

I have made you and I will carry you;

I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

To whom will you compare Me or count Me equal?

To whom will you liken Me that we may be compared?"

(Isaiah 46:3-5)

AFTERNOON DEVOTION

Afternoon Devotion: " So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." -  Isaiah 41:10

The powerful Word that created the world is the same powerful Word that controls and upholds it. Jesus exhibited His authority over nature when He walked among it, as He did when He first created it. "He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, 'Quiet! Be Still!' Then the wind died down and it was completely calm" (Mark 4:39). When the Word spoke at Creation all things came into being, and when He spoke in His Creation, at His command all nature obeyed. Winds calmed down, trees withered, water became a walkway, demons fled, illness left, fish multiplied, and the dead were raised to life. Everything in all of creation throughout all time has been under His creative and redemptive control. "Your arm is endued with power; Your hand is strong, Your right hand exalted" (Psalm 89:13).

We can find peace in the knowledge that, even though the world may appear to be spiraling out of control, our Creator is "upholding all things by the word of His power." His hands are actively involved in guiding His creation to the fulfillment of its' ordained destiny, and no one or nothing can thwart His plans or purposes (Proverbs 16:9; 19:21). Let us praise God that even when things around us seem to be falling apart, He is the powerful glue that is holding it all together; because He is the Creator who has an ultimate higher purpose.

"I love You, O LORD, my strength.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, my deliverer;

my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.

He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,

and I am saved from my enemies.

It is God who arms me with strength

and makes my way perfect.

He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;

He enables me to stand on the heights.

He trains my hands for battle;

my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

You give me Your shield of victory,

and Your right hand sustains me:

You stoop down to make me great.

You broaden the path beneath me,

so that my ankles do not turn."

(Psalm 18:1-3, 32-36)

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer of Praise: "The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. The Sovereign LORD has opened my ears, and I have not been rebellious; I have not drawn back." - Isaiah 50:4-5

God sustains all things by His powerful Word, and by His Word all things obey. It is God's desire that we, His children, be as responsive and obedient to His Word as all of nature is. His Word is "living and active," and it has all the power to nourish, encourage, convict, comfort, sustain, satisfy, and heal us. "As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so it My word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it" (Isaiah 55:10-11). Praise Him for gift of His powerful Word which upholds us, strengthens us and keeps us from stumbling. May we be faithful to share what we have received today with another weary soul who may need His nourishment.

"Praise be to You, O LORD,

God of our father Israel,

from everlasting to everlasting.

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power

and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,

for everything in heaven and earth is yours.

Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom;

You are exalted as head over all.

Wealth and honor come from You;

You are the ruler of all things.

In Your hands are strength and power

to exalt and give strength to all.

Now, our God, we give You thanks,

and praise Your glorious name."

(1 Chronicles 29:10-13)
