MORNING MEDITATION

Morning Meditation:: "And God said, 'Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.' And it was so. God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters He called "seas." And God saw that it was good. Then God said, 'Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.' And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plant bearing seed according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning - the third day." - Genesis 1:9-13

The expanse of the sky above us articulates the greatness of the majesty and glory of our Creator, in the sea of blue which surrounds the base of His throne. "...Under His feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself" (Exodus 24:10). God is above all and beyond all - He is measureless. Our God is infinite. The reality of His infinitude is evidenced on the clearest of days as the sky stretches beyond the grasp of our limited vision, our limited minds, and our limited understanding. There is no one like our God! He knows no bounds. Nothing or no one can contain Him. "This is what the LORD says: 'Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool. Where is the house you will build for Me? Where will My resting place be? Has not My hands made all these things, and so they came into being?' declares the LORD" (Isaiah 66:1, 2).

God is measureless. Yet the One who cannot be measured holds a measuring line in His hand to set the boundaries of the world. "But at Your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of Your thunder they took to flight; they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place You assigned for them. You set a boundary they cannot cross; never again will they cover the earth" (Psalm 104: 7-9). At His command, the waters were gathered into jars and locked into storehouses, the foundations of the earth were marked, and the mountain of the Lord appeared. "And to this day it is said, 'On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided" (Genesis 22:14). The earth was formed from the waters under the sky, and the foundations of His throne, His righteousness and justice, which are always on display, have now become stable ground for us to walk on. His work on the third day provided for us the firm foundation beneath our feet; an anchor for our soul that we are eternally secure.

"Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise,

in the city of our God, His holy mountain.

It is beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth.

God is in her citadels; He has shown himself to be her fortress.

As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD Almighty,

in the city of our God; God makes her secure forever.

Within Your temple, O God, we meditate on Your unfailing love.

Like Your name, O God, Your praise reaches to the ends of the earth;

Your right hand is filled with righteousness.

For this God is our God for ever and ever;

He will be our guide even to the end."

(Psalm 48:1, 2a, 3, 8, 9-10, 14)

AFTERNOON DEVOTION

Afternoon Devotion "The LORD brought me forth as the first of His works...I was there when He set the heavens in place, when He marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, when He established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, when He gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep His command, and when He marked the foundations of the earth. Then I was the craftsman at His side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in His presence, rejoicing in His whole world and delighting in mankind." - Proverbs 8:22, 27-31

God is infinite; and "His understanding has no limit" (Psalm 147:5b). Because God's primary concern is for the moral health of His world, His wisdom, which is infinitely pure, loving and good, was with Him from the beginning. With wisdom our Creator sees the end from the beginning; and in wisdom He laid out His perfect plans for creation to achieve His perfect and holy purpose - His own glory.

Our Creator fashioned the world for the purpose of filling it - with His glory. "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea" (Habakkuk 2:14). All creation is arrayed in the Masters' splendor and majesty, and working in perfect order as it is purposed to function; that is, until man is given an opportunity to share in God's rule. "They know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken" (Psalm 82:5). All creation seeks after God's wisdom, except for man. We were purposed by God to share in His wisdom, but from the beginning we did not have true understanding of the moral order that God's rule sustains. "No one stops to think, no one has the knowledge or understanding to say...He feeds on ashes, a deluded heart misleads him; he cannot save himself, or say, "Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?" (Isaiah 44:19). Our creator has made us custodians over His land, but without His wisdom to understand His plans and purposes, we bring disorder and destruction to His perfect world. When we question and debate God's Holy Word, rather than submit to His wisdom, the entire world order begins to crumble beneath our feet.

"When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?

The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD is on His heavenly throne.

He observes the sons of men; His eyes examine them."

(Psalm 11:3, 4)

Our Creator distributed power and authority to each part of His creation, with limitation, for the purpose of blessing and satisfying the earth. Man is the only part of His creation that abuses his authority, and uses it to exploit rather than to bless. In God's infinite wisdom He limits man's power and authority, in its' scope and duration. Regardless of the increase of evil, wickedness, immorality, and corruption in the hearts and lives of man, which seeks to deteriorate Gods' moral order, our Creator has promised His foundations' stability. He is holding it, and us, firm and secure within the boundaries He has set. "When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm" (Psalm 75:3). Despite man's opposing attempts, God's perfect purposes will achieve their perfect ends. Man cannot thwart His perfect and holy plan (Proverbs 16:9; 19:21).

"Should you not tremble in My presence.

I made the sand a boundary for the sea, and everlasting barrier it cannot cross.

The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail;

they may roar, but they cannot cross it."

"He gathers the waters of the sea into jars;

He puts the deep into storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the LORD;

Let all the people of the world revere Him.

For He spoke, and it came to be;

He commanded, and it stood firm."

"Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth

and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God."

(Psalm 33:7-9; 90:1-2; Jeremiah 5:22)

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer of Praise
"And there was evening, and there was morning - the third day" - Genesis 1:13.

On the third day, our Creator gathered the waters together to provide the land where He would plant the first seeds which would bless and sustain life on the earth, "and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground..." (Genesis 2:5). Likewise, He has planted the seed of His Holy Word in our hearts, and is faithfully watering that word to produce a harvest of righteousness which will fulfill His perfect and eternal plan. May we be found faithful cultivators of this sacred soil He has given us to tend, so that all the land will be a rich, fertile field ripe for the harvest, instead of a dry, deserted wasteland crumbling like dust beneath our feet. With His Mighty hand, He is holding back the flood waters, which once destroyed life on this earth, and instead opening the floodgates of His glory to produce the kind of life associated with His infinite, holy nature - eternal life! Let us praise our Creator this evening for His wisdom in setting limits on the length of our day, the length of our trials, the length of our sickness, the length of our pain, and worship Him for having no limits on His boundless love, mercy and grace which He has flooded our hearts!

"Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;

let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before Him with thanksgiving

and extol Him with music and song.

For the LORD is the great God,

the great King above all gods.

In His hand are the depths of the earth,

and the mountain peaks belong to Him.

The sea is His, for He made it,

and His hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us bow down in worship,

let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;

for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture,

the flock under His care."

Psalm 95:1-7)
