Week One
Holy Nature

Day 2
Day Two Devotions:
MORNING MEDITATION
AFTERNOON DEVOTION
EVENING PRAYER
MORNING MEDITATION

Morning Meditation:"And God said, 'Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.' So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning - the second day."- Genesis 1:6-8

The day is just beginning and already we are confronted with reminders from that always prompt and faithful representative of our Creators' holy nature dropping subtle hints from the moment we flip the switch, turn off the alarm, turn on a device, or open the window shades. Light, it is everywhere we turn, and once again we find ourselves faced with a new day. But rather than being attentive to the One who created this day with us in mind, we quickly become distracted by all the other things already on our mind, and we are off and running in the opposite direction, quickly filling the day with our own plans and agendas.

Praise God that He is never distracted, as His creative work on the second day of creation was purposed to focus our attention in only one direction - up! "In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands" (Psalm 102:25). At the Creator's word the waters were separated and the heavens were formed, and two new representatives of His holy nature took their positions as attendants of His throne. "...the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and glory are in His sanctuary" (Psalm 96:5, 6). Our Creator stretched out the heavens like a tent and declared His holy reign over His creation (Isaiah 40:22), as the light of His Holy Radiance ascended His royal throne, and His glory filled the sky.

This morning, as we are about to begin our day, let us take a moment and look up and meditate on the vast blue sky above us. This sea of blue that covers us like a canopy should bring us to our knees with the realization that we are in the midst of Royalty. That heavenly covering enveloping us each day, which we have so often taken for granted, should take our breath away and cause us to bow before our King in a chorus of praise. He is more glorious than the heavens displayed above us and we, His Bride, have been given the royal key to His infinite, glorious treasury.

"O LORD, our Lord,

how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

You have set Your glory above the heavens.

"To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens,

the earth and everything in it."

"O LORD, Almighty, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim,

You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth.

You have made heaven and earth."

(Deuteronomy 10:14; Psalm 8:1; Isaiah 37:16)

AFTERNOON DEVOTION

Afternoon Devotion "In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them and they will be discarded. But You remain the same, and Your years will never end" (Psalm 102:25).

On the first day, our Creator wrapped Himself in light as with a garment and began His holy work constructing the Bridal Chamber for our glorious nuptials to take place. As the covering of His canopy is stretched out over us today, may we see this day as a glorious picture of our Kinsman-Redeemer spreading the corner of His garment over us as a symbol of our marriage covenant and His promise of protection until that future feasting day (Ruth 3:9; Ezekiel 16:8). "For great is Your love, higher than the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies" (Psalm 108:4)

God's faithfulness surrounds Him like a garment and every day we can look up and see the train of His royal robes filling the sky as a promise to us, His Bride, that we are eternally His. "Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But My salvation will last forever, My righteousness will never fail." (Isaiah 51:6). Much like the Israelites garments, which never wore out during their pilgrimage to their promise land, our garments are eternally secure. May we go out each day in the joy and hope of the Lord, dressed in our royal attire, and wrapped in the garment of His glory. "I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels" (Isaiah 61:10).

"I will sing of the LORD's great love forever;

with my mouth I will make Your faithfulness known through all generations.

I will declare that Your love stands firm forever,

that You established Your faithfulness in heaven itself.

You are mighty, O LORD, and Your faithfulness surrounds You.

For You are their glory and strength,

and by Your favor You exalt our horn.

Indeed, our shield belongs to the LORD,

our king to the Holy One of Israel."

(Psalm 89:1-2, 8, 16-18)

EVENING PRAYER

Evening Prayer of Praise
"And there was evening, and there was morning - the second day" (Genesis1:8b).

As the light of this day gives way to the night, let us offer up a prayer of praise to the One who is seated on the throne as Sovereign over all the earth, yet is intimately involved in the affairs of His people. Let us begin to see each new day as an opportunity to behold Him. Let us worship Him tonight in the splendor of His holiness, praising Him for His presence in our lives and His promise for our future, as we take comfort under the covering of His heavenly garment in the sky. "For this is what the high and lofty One says - He who lives forever, whose name is holy; 'I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite" (Isaiah 57:15).

"Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones,

Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name;

worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.

The voice of the LORD is over the waters;

the God of glory thunders,

the LORD thunders over the mighty waters.

The voice of the LORD is powerful;

the voice of the LORD is majestic.

The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars;

the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.

The voice of the LORD shakes the desert;

The voice of the LORD twists the oaks

and strips the forests bare.

And in His temple all cry, "Glory!"

The LORD sits enthroned over the flood;

The LORD is enthroned as King forever.

The LORD gives strength to His people;

the LORD blesses His people with peace."

(Psalm 29)
