The Hand that Stirs the Heart

Dear Praying Friend,
We are just a few days into this new year and there are many believers, like yourself, who have resolved to seek the Lord with greater fervency and focus. Many people are hurting and hungry, and the Lord is stirring His people to return to Him with all their hearts. May we respond to His prompting and be willing to share the Lord's nourishing Word with another hungry heart (read today's Epiphany for a greater portion of the Word of God).
As we meditate on Psalm 27:7-8 today, David shares his response to the tugging on his heart to seek the Lord. Our hearts were designed by God to be wrapped around Him, and there is, what has been sung, a "God-sized" hole that is desperate to be filled with the love of God. If we will simply allow the Lord to perform His open-heart surgery He will generously fill us to overflow with His love. "I love those who love Me, and those who seek Me find Me" (Proverbs 8:17).
"Glory in His holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Look to the LORD and His strength;
seek His face always."
(1 Chronicles 16:10-11)
Dear Heavenly Father, how blessed we are that we can come to You and know that we will always find You. You are always present, waiting for Your children to gather around Your feet and receive Your love. Help Your children to see the hurt in their hearts and the longing they are feeling is the nudging of Your spirit to simply come home. May we respond with all our hearts to the leading of Your will and give You our full, and undivided, attention. We don't want to respond to You in misery, we want to return to You in love. 'You are my portion, O LORD; I have promised to obey Your words. I have sought Your face with all my heart; be gracious to me according to Your promise.' This year, Lord, we will call upon Your name only, and humble ourselves as we faithfully pray; and we will seek Your face and repent of our evil ways. Let this be the generation that seeks Your face Lord, the generation that seeks You with all our heart. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
