HIS HAND
OF FAVOR
"It was not by their sword
that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them
victory;
it was Your right hand,
Your arm, and
the light of Your face,
for You loved them."
(Psalm 44:2-3)

Day 59

Secret Handshake

__________________________

Dear Praying Friend,

The Lord led me to a wonderful place a few years ago where He revealed to me the secret to faithfulness.  It is in these following verses that I find peace when people begin to question, or prod, or expect something else from me - because it is here, in the words and actions of Jesus, that I remember there is only One Voice that I am called to listen and respond to:

"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark,
Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place,
where He prayed.
Simon and his companions went to look for him,
and when they found him, they exclaimed:
"Everyone is looking for you!"
Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else -
to the nearby villages - so I can preach there also.
That is why I have come."
(Mark 1:35-38)

As we meditate on Psalm 27:5-6 today, we find, what appears to be, a contrasting statement:  "He will hide me...and set me high upon a rock" (v.5b).  When we place our trust in the Lord we are hidden away under the shelter of His wings, but also set high upon a rock, as a witness for all to see.  It is a wonderful description of how God works.  When we consider the lives of David, Gideon, or Daniel, we find the Lord had His eyes on His faithful ones who were living lives of quiet devotion to God, yet diligent in the tasks they had been given and faithful in prayer; and then He set them before kings, and on the front lines of the battlefield to lead His people to victory in His name.  Jesus set this example for us by making His time with the Father His priority each day - in the quiet, secret place is where we will find our confidence, our peace, and our marching orders for each day.  We cannot afford to sacrifice that precious time with the Lord.  Jesus Himself let nothing deter Him from spending time alone with the Father each day.

Dear Heavenly Father, when we are diligent to seek You, You are faithful to show Yourself to us.  Thank You for all the ways You reveal Yourself.  There is no greater joy than to sit at Your feet and receive Your Word for the day. Hide me away in the shelter of Your wings and give me the courage and strength I need when You take me to the edge of the nest and let me soar.  When the world is looking at me let them see one who is in love with God; completely devoted and full of confidence, standing firm on Your Word, and willing to risk contempt for the glory of Your name. My quiet time with You prepares me to face the day, because you show me where You have already gone ahead and prepared the way.  Help me to face the little battles each day with confidence in the victory You have already attained by winning the war. You are my strength and my song, my salvation, and my God, and I will praise You.  You Lord are highly exalted, my one desire is to remain at Your side.  In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Steadfast in prayer,
