HIS HAND
OF FAVOR
"It was not by their sword
that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them
victory;
it was Your right hand,
Your arm, and
the light of Your face,
for You loved them."
(Psalm 44:2-3)

Day 54

Holy Hands

_______________________

Dear Praying Friend,

Apart from God our human hands are limited in the work that we are able to accomplish.   Often it is only when we come to that place of desperation, realizing we can not go another step in our own strength, or figure out the situation in our own minds, that we finally throw up our hands asking to be rescued.  "I call to you, O LORD, every day; I spread out my hands to you" (Psalm 88:9).

As we meditate on Psalm 143:5-6 today, the psalmist has been reflecting on all that the hands of the Lord have accomplished.  The more he considers the work of God, the more he realizes how insignificant his efforts must appear.  He ends up doing what many of the Old Testament faithful leaders did - he spread out his hands in prayer (reference Exodus 9:29; Ezra 9:5-15; Nehemiah 9:5-37; Daniel 9:4-19).  It is here, in humble surrender, that we express our helplessness and submit our hope into the holy hands of our mighty and compassionate God.

"Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD
in front of the whole assembly of Israel,
spread out his hands toward heaven and said:
'O LORD, God of Israel,
there is no God like You in heaven above
or on earth below-
You who keep Your covenant of love
with Your servants
who continue wholeheartedly in Your way."
(1 Kings 8:22-23)

Dear Heavenly Father, how awesome and magnificent is the work of Your hands.  Nothing we do compares to You. You alone are holy.  May we daily take the posture of prayer that these faithful one, whom You chose to lead Your holy nation, did;  humbly falling on our knees and spreading out our hands in surrender to Your will.  Only those with clean hands and a pure heart can come to You Lord.  Cleanse us of the dirt of sin on our hands, receive our humble requests.  Pour out Your power upon us so that everything we do will be for Your kingdom purpose and be blessed by You. We are helpless without You.  Our work is limited, but You are limitless.  We surrender all that we are into Your holy and mighty hands.  We come before You on behalf of our nation, as these faithful servants who have gone before did, and ask that You take us by the hand and guide us back to You. We need Your Presence leading us once again.  Forgive us for neglecting Your Word and failing to come before You in prayer as we should.  We have much to repent of.  We long to walk as we once did - bringing glory and honor and praise to Your high and holy name.  Take us by the hand and lead us to Your holy mountain.  We place our confidence and trust in You.  May your will done on earth as it is in heaven.  In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Steadfast in prayer,
