HIS HAND
OF FAVOR
"It was not by their sword
that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them
victory;
it was Your right hand,
Your arm, and
the light of Your face,
for You loved them."
(Psalm 44:2-3)

Praying Hands

Dear Praying Friend,

As we look at the New Year that is before us it is becoming more and more evident that we must become people of prayer.  For those that are faithful prayer warriors and intercessors the idea may seem foreign when it is such a daily part of your life.  For many believers, however, prayer is not a focused part of their day.  When we spend time in the Word of God we realize our greater need for the Lord and the necessity to come to Him in prayer at all times!

As we meditate on Psalm 143:1-2 today, we find a pattern of prayer (found in many of the penitential psalms) that any believer may find themself praying.  The psalmists have given us extraordinary heartfelt prayers that we can use in our daily prayer time with Lord.  As we look at the prayers of many faithful leaders in the Scriptures we find that they prayed God's Word to remind the Lord of His covenant promises (and to remind themselves of their covenant failures).  How blessed we are that these words were recorded and we now have this wonderful book of prayer at our disposal.

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions
with all kinds of prayer and requests.
With this in mind, be alert
and always keep on praying for all the saints."
(Ephesians 6:18)

Dear Heavenly Father, "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."  Thank You for the example of Your own prayer life, Lord. You came to this earth to communicate God's message of love with mankind, and You demonstrated with Your life how we can communicate with God through obedience and prayer.  You rose up early to pray, You went off by Yourself to pray, and You prayed all through the night.  You depended fully on the Father and You went to Him at all times to receive direction and to find refreshment in Him.  Forgive us for when we only come to You when we want something, or when life gets so out of control turning to You becomes our last resort.  You should be our first priority.  Help me to be like David and Daniel who sought You morning, noon, and night.  May all Your children realize the importance of spending time with You each day in prayer.  How You desire to hear from us and enjoy spending time with us each day.  You long to hear our voice - even though You already know our hearts. May our lives bring You pleasure as we sit in Your presence and listen to Your voice. May we resolve to spend more time with You, above all others, in the New Year. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Steadfast in prayer,
