HIS HAND
OF FAVOR
"It was not by their sword
that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them
victory;
it was Your right hand,
Your arm, and
the light of Your face,
for You loved them."
(Psalm 44:2-3)

Day 51

The Only Hand to Hold

_______________________________

Dear Praying Friend,

How blessed we are to have a loving, faithful, and gracious God to turn to in our time of need and who takes care of things we may not even be aware of.   He came to us in our hour of greatest need and gave us what we needed most - Himself! Our Heavenly Father has held out His hand in the most personal way possible, desiring that we would become as a trusting child and simply take hold of His hand and allow Him to lead us through this life.  May we get a firm grip of His strong arm, as we continue this amazing journey of faith with our ever-faithful Guide.

As we meditate on Psalm 143 today, we find ourselves coming to the end of the seven penitential psalms.  Our journey through these seven appeals for God's mercy and grace in the midst of difficult circumstances, both personally and nationally, have led us to a deeper understanding of how firm and trustworthy, and also how gentle and loving, the hand of our God is.  Every time the psalmists cried out, they lifted their voices to the One, True, Living God, believing their requests would be heard and answered.

"Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.
How priceless is your unfailing love!
Both high and low among men find refuge
in the shadow of your wings."
(Psalm 36:5-7)

Dear Heavenly Father, what words could we offer that could compare to that most beautiful word uttered that holy night some 2000 years ago - Jesus!  No other name is worthy.  You are Immanuel - God with us!  How blessed and humbled we are to have Your Presence in our lives.  When all the packages, bows, trimmings, and decorations are put away for another year, help us to keep our hearts and minds focused on You.  Forgive us for the times we make other things a priority than spending time with You.  That is all You want from us - our devotion, our attention, our adoration, our trust. You are the faithful, loving, compassionate, forgiving, ever-present, all-sufficient, all-powerful God.  There is no one like You. We want to experience the fullness of Your love each and every day of our lives.  Thank you for each day You give us, to walk in Your will, and to experience Your love and goodness. There is nothing we have to offer that You desire more than our heart - pa rum pa pa pum...may our hearts beat one with Yours.  We don't deserve You - but You gave up everything to draw us close to You.  It is overwhelming the depths You go to each day to show Yourself faithful and trustworthy.  You are always wooing us into a deeper, more intimate relationship with You.  Protect the hours of our day - help us to be intentional about the time we spend with You.  We have nothing to offer the world if we haven't first been filled with more of You.  Help us to give the best of You to those we come in contact with each day, because we have first given the best of ourselves to You.  Make our lives a constant gift to You - for Your service and Your pleasure.  Delight in us as we delight in You.  In the name that is above all names, Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Steadfast in prayer,

Traci Alexander
