HIS HAND
OF FAVOR
"It was not by their sword
that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them
victory;
it was Your right hand,
Your arm, and
the light of Your face,
for You loved them."

Day 33

Place Your Hand on my heart

___________________________________

Dear Praying Friend,

David was "a man after God's own heart" (1 Samuel 13:14; 16:7b).  He was a fearless fighter for the Lord, but his sin crippled him and made him weak and useless.  The Lord created David for His purposes, establishing him as king over His people, and He would do the work necessary to strengthen His anointed one to continue to shepherd His people. "Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him and he will bring justice to the nations" (Isaiah 42:1).

As we meditate on Psalm 51:10-12 today, we join with David in a beautiful prayer for purity as he cries out for a "pure heart" and a "steadfast and willing spirit."  He knows that God is the Creator who made him, and Who has prepared him and placed him in his royal position.  Only the Lord's hands can purify his heart and restore him. "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh" (Ezekiel 36:26).

"The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him -
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of power,
the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD."
(Isaiah 11:2)

Dear Heavenly Father, Your word tells us that Your eyes are searching the earth for hearts that are fully committed to You so You can strengthen them.  Find in us hearts that are wholly devoted to You, Lord, we long to have a heart like David's, a heart like Yours.  We know that our hearts are wicked and deceitful, search our hearts Lord.  We come to You and ask, like David, that You would purify us - remove our hearts of stone and give us hearts of  flesh - that we might see You.  Give us a heart that You can use for Your glory - a heart that loves and cares for Your people. Give us a heart that is fearless, willing to go to battle in Your holy war.  Lord, we desire Your Spirit to work within us, we don't want to rebel against You or grieve Your Spirit.  Give us a willing Spirit within us, we pray.  We want our lives to glorify You. Move the hearts of Your people that we might be moved to do Your will and bring Your message of salvation to the world.  Praise be Your glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with Your glory. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Steadfast in prayer,

The Festival of Lights journey begins TODAY!
December 8th through December 16th

This 8-day candle lighting ceremony, in celebration of Hanukkah,
is a devotional journey for the whole family to participate in.

Hanukkah, or "dedication", is the Jewish celebration commemorating
the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.  The lighting of the 9-branch
Menorah symbolizes the "miracle of the container of oil" in which the oil burned
miraculously for eight days.  Candles are set in the window of Jewish homes to
"illuminate the house without" and to light the way for all who pass by.
The Jews have been made "a light for the Gentiles" (Isaiah 49:6).  As we reflect
back with gratitude over the plan of God for the salvation of all mankind through
the blessed birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of the Messiah, and look
forward to the day when Zion's salvation will burn like a blazing torch (Isaiah 62:1),
we take this time now to re-dedicate our lives as the temple of God and
consecrate our hearts to the Lord - allowing the miraculous oil of the Holy Spirit
within to radiate and reveal the Light of Christ to the lost
in this dark and fallen world.

We invite you and your family to join us for this special 8-day re-dedication ceremony.
This is not a fast, it is a feast!
